Pretty sure it is the same as the 525tds. I've heard different stories as to whether injector 4 can be reconditioned or not, but certainly not just a seal you can swap out. I'd take the one from the BMW!

Good morning all. the shock absorbers on my '92 classic are shot, so I need a new set. I've been looking around ebay and elsewhere, and there's quite a wide range of prices. does anyone have a recommendation of for a good brand & model? I'm guessing britpart aren't the one to go for ... how...

i guess that's better than putting 5 litres of engine oil in the transmission! I'm amazed there's room for an extra 5 litres in the engine. Or was the engine 5 litres short to start with?

there was a very simillar question/thread to this a week or two ago. Search should find it easy. It covered testing and the likely source of leak.

the viscous unit should just unscrew (sharp clockwise tap on the spanner i think). You shouldn't need to disconnect any hoses.

there are threads on here you can find that show how to get it back together. But very fraught to do it on double yellows!

sounds like its not firing on all 8 to me. I'd try removing plug leads in turn to see if you can find one that doesn't make a difference.

if you hold it steady at 3k rpm, does it vibrate? or is it only when revs are rising and falling?

that science doesn't work for me. They're mixing up magnetic charge with electrical charge for a start, and I'm pretty sure fuel doesn't have ionizing molecules..... That's why water doesn't mix with fuel. (water is ionized)

even scibing the casing before removal might not ensure it goes back in the right place - because scribing would be around the washer, and the washer has some play on the bolt.

sounds like you're describing the electronic connector on the side. Is that right ? You don't need to remove that to change the seal. should be all torx on top for that. Front near side bolts through both layers, and then there are 2 sets of 3 bolts for each layer. From personal experience I...

I think waxoyl on bare metal works fine doesn't it? I think a layer of something else underneath just holds water and keeps the waxoyl off.

if V8, I think it does sound like the thermostat not opening. I know you said you replaced it, but did you test it before fitting it? I don't think that would explain 'no heat from heater' thoug - maybe there's an airlock too. btw I don't have a p38, so comments not based on experience...
