    Classic 3.9 V8 - Over heating - still

Looking increasingly like the rad as I've fitted a new (82 degree) thermostat with the jiggle pin at 12 o'clock:) and it's made no difference, although I couldn't get it to 'burp' as I'm sure it should (front end on ramps and rad screw cap checked) it will still go to HOT on cold heater setting...

Thanks for that. Mine hasn't got Cats so it seems an 82 degree (with jiggle in or hole) is the way forward:)

    Classic 3.9 V8 - Over heating - still

I just went by the 1994 manual (and manufacturer's site) which said an 88 opens fully at 98 so thought that was ok, I did buy another thermostat (88, and no jiggle pin) before I did the test so if 'burping' doesn't work, 82 it is, thanks:)

    Classic 3.9 V8 - Over heating - still

Slight problem, on one hand I daren't do a 100 miles as it is at present, the cab gets a tad worm with the heater on full blast:(, on the other hand, I don't want to see UV any sooner if you get my drift.o_O

    Classic 3.9 V8 - Over heating - still

Hi people, having read numerous threads on here about this I've tried to do most of what's been suggested, things I've done so far are; compression test, all good / checked thermostat with snap-on diagnostic, full flow at 98 degrees / replaced viscous fan / replaced water pump (old one seemed ok...

Overheating leading to misfire - solved

That's why the viscous fan got replaced LOL:D, cheapest first, spot on! But, plug lead was never mentioned in those first few days of panic mode. Overheat = failed plug lead just didn't seem to occur to any-one initially:confused:, and then to only one person (who also keeps my MGB and Mk1 mini...

Overheating leading to misfire - solved

1994 3.9 Classic On the way home a few weeks ago the temperature gauge started to creep up, I was on gas so swopped to petrol to see if it made any difference (runs hotter on gas) I'll get home (5ish miles) I thought, wrong:(, it went very hot very quick so I had to stop (farmers field...

Central locking and alarm dead, so is car!

Thanks but the 6" nails are cut up and reserved in case a 13amp household fuse blows:D

Central locking and alarm dead, so is car!

Back to it again today thinking what happens if I push all the connectors with a very thin screwdriver? o_OThe result was that nothing happened on the black 16 pin plug BUT, I found a trapped wire from the white 6 pin plug, so I traced it back and pushed that in with the screwdriver, the...

Central locking and alarm dead, so is car!

Didn't know it was a book, it was just one of dad's sayings having survived WWII :) Tried to take a photo yesterday but it just shows a 16 pin plug in a socket, nothing more to see, no signs of corrosion on it or the wiring (that's why I said it was probably more my fault than the...

Central locking and alarm dead, so is car!

Happy :):) it's working. Up to me, too true, my decision (never been a strong point:eek:) but, and it's a big BUT, can't leave it alone, it's as crusty as hell down there so, got to find the reason for the leak that caused the 'crustiness' (is that really a word?o_O) in the first place, so got...

Central locking and alarm dead, so is car!

OK, it's all working :) (at the moment!). After moving all the connectors whilst cleaning them I found the earth point and cleaned that up, but it still didn't work:(, until I moved the alarm ecu, then it did, again, just the once. So here was the problem now, I think some ham fisted idiot...

Central locking and alarm dead, so is car!

3 brilliant posts, I really do thank you for taking the time to write:). Weather permitting (and whether or not the intercooler arrives today for my sons Volvo:rolleyes:) I'll be on it today. I've ordered some CAIG DeoxIT, seems like something that should be in the tool box anyway, cheers. Being...

Central locking and alarm dead, so is car!

Funny you should say that, my son and I have been playing with the electrics on the near side footwell and there's a fair amount of corrosion. :( My son carried out tests as per the Electric Troubleshooting Manual and found there was an earth distribution point problem to both front door locks...

Central locking and alarm dead, so is car!

I was recommended by a friend to try Gav at 'Keepers Cottage Classics' in Bramshall, he admitted it was out of his territory, he's a Series and Defender man but to try Greg at LRX in Leek. I did and explained the scenario to him and he said he felt the non starting and the central locking/alarm...

Central locking and alarm dead, so is car!

Well the relays arrived and I duly fitted them, hoping they would be the panacea, no such luck, nothing changed:(. So now I'm in back to basics mode as suggested but I've hit a snag, I can't reach the starter motor, not from above or (when jacked up) underneath, am I missing a trick here please?o_O

The battery read the same as the coil, since charging it up it's not dropped (12.66v) but there's nothing live, well apart from the clock:). The relays were at DHL in B'ham at 6:46 this morning so maybe delivered today?
