Obviously, on foreign roads...
I briefly tried the 80-90mph speed range, and was surprised how noisy it was in my 2002 double cab p/up.
Given that my previous, and more battered '90 station wagon was fine at these speeds - well, noisy, of course, but not quite so deafening - in fact, not so...
A quick look around reveals that the problem of runaway diesel engines is well known.
"Detroit Diesels have an air cutoff butterfly valve as standard equipment, but for other engines you can buy a butterfly air shutoff and install a Morse or Teleflex cable " (Runaway Diesel Engine - SailNet...
Hmm - that doesn't sound like it - It just ran (in jan) from Valencia in Spain back to uk - not ticking over
It now does 100 miles per day - no traffic jams - up and down the ox - 3, 4,5, whole journey - speeds 30 -70 ( I mean 60, of course)
ps - the whiteSmoke startd after I cleaned the...
Hmm -I guess I'm just hoping.
This has been a regularly-maintained injun. It starts instantly.
But the slight roughness/misfire + whiteSmoke has only occurred 4 times. In the last few days - before that - nothing.
What would be the cause of cylinder glazing?
Aagh!
But consider: it doesn't do it if standing for an hour - only if it's been standing for 5 hours (or more).
Unburnt diesel for sure, but wouldn't heater plugs be the first suspect?
Not a band, but what I've had the last couple of times on starting after a full day parked, and again in the morning. Accompanied by rough running and reluctance to rev for a minute or two
Prob been done to death, this.
My guess: heater plug on one or more cylinders not working properly...
Well, took red plug off and poured out the spare oil I'd been storing there... cleaned with isopropyl alcohol and cloth.
seemed better, but not entirely convinced that's all - still think there may be a sensor acting up (though I suppose the oil at the ecu could mimic that)
thanks - so even after new harness, I may have some few problems for a while.
But, if it is actually affecting the ECU - surely, it must be in there, to cause very slight signal shorting?
Yep, just had a quick furtle -some oil on the red plug under the seat. (I've only had this vehicle a month = 2K miles)
Latest on 'rebooting' - today, it did the opposite: after restarting, it was very reluctant indeed, then after 30 secs, picked up and accelerated.
Now, if oil down the loom...
I'm not completely convinced by the starvation argument.
If, sometimes, I turn it off for 30 seconds, then restart - it can have returned to pulling well. That would be consistent with fuel or air starvation. But it continues for a decent while, going off the boil later, sometimes just after...
On deterrents:
Naturally, we've been discussing this over on Landywatch.
Apart from the usual covert measures that ought not be discussed in public, there are overt measures that can deter - and these save on damaged doorlocks/windows/steering locks/ignition wiring etc.
I park in my...
2002 TD5 110. 93K, VGC
First thing in the morning - it's tugging at the leash.
Couple of miles up the road, it's less enthusiastic.
Not stuttering, just - not pulling that well.
Uphill, 55mph, start to lose speed slightly - drop to 4th - and it's still lost a bit more, it might maintain, say...
well, I was inside a company network, but it grabbed my browser and "Lisa" insisted I should read how she earns £££s from google, and popups kept interrupting any attempt to navigate away, or even close the browser, or even go through shutdown!
I'm not going to bother trying it again to see...
The Humberside link is interesting - it has cropped up before
Do post on Landywatch as well - we're trying to co-ordinate intelligence about methods etc.
Also, we've noticed that scallywags actually do read these forums, so everyone should beware of giving too much away.
The villains do their...
