Swivel pins maybe or steering ball joints, have you checked the tie bar behind the axle check both track rod ends and also both lock nuts . Swivel pins could have a shim removed may help, see if the movement goes if the brakes are applied.

Have you tried tapping it around with a punch or centre punch, if its not bottomed out there will not be much holding it in. May be thread locked, in which case a blow torch wil help.

Also check steering box is central, same number turns to each lock.

Try loosening the nut and wiggling wheels side to side or just cut it off.

check front arms for caster correction also. If no cranked arms are fitted dont expect any bushes to last very long.

Fuel filler may let in water, power steering res cap has a breather that could do with extending

Got a disc handbrake on mine so no experiance of the adjuster, but what is the cable sheath like are they rusty and dragging a few strands of cable grabbing the outer sheath ? what about the cable route is it the normal route no tight bends for it to stick on ?

Disco steering set up is the way to go, no drop arm ball joint to mess with. You dont need to relocate the steering damper its best protected where it is on the fender set up, just make a bracket to weld/clamp to the front arm, everything you need is on the old cross eye part just measure cut...
