cheapest would be to replace what you have already fitting a later 5 speed box is possible but costly and tdi conversions are doable but not for under the £500 in parts

Most garages will be unwilling to fit an engine that they havent seen running or atleast given a once over. Its their reputation after all and no one wants a ****ed off landy owner in thier office putting off other customers!

It's actually a very labour intensive job the money wont be in the parts its the 20ish hours of labour that will be put into it by the time youve had the engine pulled out swapped a few bits refitted it and then tested it all

there is such a massive grey area over it all if i wasnt so set on doing it the idea of all the pencil pushing ****ers would put me off. makes you wonder how long i could get away with it for :P
