I NEED URGENT ADVICE: Electrickery/Alternator and a stupid owner??

The battery terminals are returning over 12v with full beam lights, indicator, heater on max and stereo on. HOWEVER, to get it to show over 12v I had to increase the idle speed screw until all electrics worked constantly and the ALT light went out on the instrument panel. I've noticed as well...

    Chassis Rust/MOT

So, my chassis seems fairly sound but there is a rust hole on the rear cross-member in the middle about the size of a fifty pence piece. Will this become an issue during the MOT or is it too insignificant at the moment? Then, what are my options for patching it up or should I be thinking about...

I NEED URGENT ADVICE: Electrickery/Alternator and a stupid owner??

Good afternoon! My S3 is having a bit of a fit over it's electrics. The symptoms are the blinkers sometimes don't blink (either stay on or off) or they do blink but not consistently and not as quick as they used too. I also have a radio wired in which cuts out then turns back on. The ALT...

    Blakes deteriorate after bleeding.

Just to finish this thread, I replaced the master brake cylinder and it did indeed solve the issue. Thank you again for the excellent advice. For others who may be in a similar situation, it was not too difficult a job. However, I did find I needed two socket wrenches (one smallish) to be...

    Blakes deteriorate after bleeding.

Any tips for fitting Oxides? So I understand fully, was the ripping kind of unavoidable? I mean, if I hadn't let the fluid run low then I wouldn't have had to bleed brakes or use break lever right to floor so perhaps in that respect it was avoidable. But I mean, accepting that I should be...

    Blakes deteriorate after bleeding.

Bugger! :( ..Although glad it's such an absolute diagnosis so hopefully I can fix it easily :)

I hate my exhaust manifold! Rusting/seizing prevention??

Jeeez I was being stupid. Thanks for the detailed explanation Oxides, makes total sense now. Think I'll give it another go then. Johnny, yep, got your previous msgs about the lead polish/graphite paint. I got an aerosol spray version and it looks crackin' now.

    Blakes deteriorate after bleeding.

I let my brake fluid drop below the minimum line way back and I think that got air in the system. I topped up reservoir and bled them and all went well, pedal went hard and they worked fine for a day. The next day pressure had dropped and required a few pedla presses and over the next couple...

I hate my exhaust manifold! Rusting/seizing prevention??

You mean by using a hand brace? I never really got that far as couldn't drill a sensible enough pilot hole to start me off. Though, the stud seems rock hard so not sure I can see me being able to use a brace to make any impact on the stud - certainly not with the cheap **** stud removal tools...

I hate my exhaust manifold! Rusting/seizing prevention??

Why do I get the feeling I'm about to look really stupid... I thought to remove the stud I would have to first drill a pilot hole (normal drill bit in normal right spinning drill), then drill into the pilot hole with a left handed drill bit/stud remover (with a drill turning left) so that...

I hate my exhaust manifold! Rusting/seizing prevention??

For anyone else reading this I ended up buying a new manifold from Brookwells. After painting it with graphite paint (aerosol) and getting new studs and bolts to make the job as pain free as possible I started assembling everything, just to find that the cast of the exhaust manifold was so...

    In-line fuel filter or not?

My sediment bowl does get a few particles in over a few weeks but I still have no reason to suspect any problems. In fact, I took the carb off recently for a look and it was clean as a whistle and that was probably the first time in years it's been looked at. I think as I have two filters I...

    Yep, clocked that :)

    Cranks but won't fire...

I have a question with regards to the SAFETY: :screaming_bug_eye_f:screaming_bug_eye_f:screaming_bug_eye_f If the LT has worked and then the points broken the HT circuit is then charged right. If connected the king lead would run to earth via the plugs. BUT, if you are testing and let's say...

    In-line fuel filter or not?

What side did you put it Serv? I have a small rubber tube (about 3") which connects the fuel line to the carb and I could fit one end of the filter in that and get another small piece to then connect the fuel line back to the filter. I have seen some people saying that the heat of the manifold...

    Cranks but won't fire...

I definitely had a grin on my face when it fired up :D it was nice to have (kind of) figured it out myself too as oppose to just following steps. Although it was a stupid mistake I was only able to rectify it because I understood how it all worked and that was only down to you lot sharing...

    In-line fuel filter or not?

I have a couple of those ****parts inline fuel filters and wonder if it's worth fitting one to my S3. It doesn't have one currently and no reason for me to think it needs one but as I have a couple just wonder if it's worth sticking one on. If so where abouts ...dizzy side or manifold side to...

    Cranks but won't fire...

Right... If you all form an orderly queue you can take a turn each at calling me a dick. When I reassembled the dizzy with the new points and condensor I placed the nylon insulating collar BETWEEN the points and the braided earth cable/condensor so my LT coil circuit was never being...

    Cranks but won't fire...

Condensor changed already - no difference. Will still use essay  but just ignore the body/earth bit. Thanks for all your pateince, this is slowly starting to make sense it's just taking a while for the picture to build in my head. Will hopefully be all the greater sense of achievment...

    Cranks but won't fire...

I guess I'm complicating the thread by asking for a physics lesson which I can take away off line with me. I'll stick to getting the thing working first based on your directions Serv and once I've done that perhaps I'll come back for more clarification on emf etc. :)
