Why did I buy a Land Rover!!!

Probably old bike inner tubes cut to size and doubled over so they squish and seal the gap?

    series free brake trouble

The adjuster on the rear offside drum isn't adjusting - worn to shreds when I had a look. I've got a new one to replace it with (already done the fronts) but the hole on the back plate is at an angle. This surely sn't right is it?

    series free brake trouble

No. You posted this just before a landy owning mate of my brother-in-law's called to explain my stupidity! Landyzone wins by figuring my mistake out first tho - cheers Disco71! I'll get the adjusters nipped up before trying again. Chalk this one up to inexperience and/or stupidity! :D What is...

    series free brake trouble

I've had a proverbial nightmare with my SIIa swb. I had to replace the front shoes, all 4 cylinders, make two brake pipes up, new flexi-hoses and had to replace the rear flexi which was an MOT fail. I've done this to hopefully eradicate a braking imbalance (brakes were very good otherwise)...

What have you done to your Landie today.

I seem to have spent the last few days chasing problems. I'd cleaned up my drums and fitted new shoes as I had a brake imbalance at the MOT. Also had to replace the rear flexi hose as part of the MOT fails. Of course, when it came to bleed the brakes, both nipples on the front cylinders were...

    Exterior Sun Visor

I like the look of that, nice job. Has given me a couple of ideas too.

    over drive series 3

You can use it in any gear but I find it pointless - and I have read that it contributes wear and tear. I generally use it just as an overdrive, bunging it in when I'm in 4th and hit 40.

    It Passed!!!

It rather sounds like I need to go to an mot station that is a little more in tune with vintage landies - the mot tester admitted to me he did not even know the rule for older vehicles re seat belts and had NEVER tested anything so old.

    It Passed!!!

Lucky git! Mine had 11 - eleven - ****ing fails, including ****e like the horn and sidelight which both decided that NOT WORKING whilst ONLY within the MOT station would be highly amusing.

Front wheel bearing - how tight?

Well it worked - just tightened it up then backed off till the hub was spinning freely. Will adjust if necessary after a road-test. The first nut ended up only really a smidgeon past finger-tight.

Front wheel bearing - how tight?

Cheers Sean. No perceptible wobbles or anything, just feels a little tight when the nut is loosened off - can turn it easily by hand but it's not like it wants to keep spinning. Of course could be coz I didn't put that washer on first..I'll go give that a bash. Thanks. :)

Front wheel bearing - how tight?

Just working through the SIIa's MOT fails; Got the front hub off to replace the wheel bearings, followed Busterbus's guide and have fitted the new bearings. Quick question before I complete the job. How tight should the hub be to spin? I'n tightening up the first big nut and obviously if it's...

    Split Charger help

Thanks for all the advice, I was away camping so didn't get a chance to check the thread. Food for thought, I shall digest all of your advice and then see how I get on. Thanks all. :tea:

    Split Charger help

Did I not mention that I had done a search but needed someone who could help me with my specific wiring? :p Thanks for the link Paul, maybe I just have to be brave and wire it in....batteries don't explode that often do they? :D

    Split Charger help

I know there's a few threads on split-chargers but wondered if any kind soul could assist me. I'm only trying to wire-in a split-charger and second battery but the more I look at it, the more confused I become. I have a split-charger I nabbed off my Brother-in-law but to be honest it looks...

    Any Nanocom users?

Anyone use a Nanocom on their TD5s? My brother-in-law has one and it's driving me nuts trying to get it to behave properly. The manual and the Italian website are bloody useless! The problem we get is that it works OK on the vehicle. It's at firmware 2.03 - as a pre-usb port version we cant...

    Damn Truck wants me killed

Yeah, but that was in Saudi Arabia in 120 degree heat which causes batterie fluid and petrol losses occasionally through evaporation. I've had issues like you describe twice in cars (not in my landy tho). First time it was the coil overheating, second time the carb was flooding.

    Crap Overland

That's rotten. Been reading your site and your plans sound amazing. One useful thing is you have the perfect template in your current canvas. There do exist bespoke canvas/tent fabricators - perhaps you could talk one into doing a replacement for a bargain price as a sponsorship deal in return...

    Hi Lift Jack

Cheers, just using the wasted space. Otherwise I'd have the back full of tools and crap and no room to ever carry people or anything else. Just nicked the cable off the father-in-law to wire up my stereo and a couple of switches on the landy. The colours will likely tell you how long he's had...
