    fluids change, how often????

I do diffs, gearbox, CV joints & prop shafts every year with the transfer case every two. My milage is very similar to yours most years with the max of 6000ish very occasionally and only if I 'do' abroad. Have not had any problems or noted wear so far.

    gear box heat

Sounds about right to me, what with the radiator and intercooler dissipating heat at a huge rate most of which goes under the vehicle, then the exhaust which on mine does warm up the rear floor. Also all the gears and what have you whizzing round all produce heat, which is why in some markets...

    Air Conditioning Problem

OMG!!! Avoid krap-fit, go back to the clutchfitting garage and either yell or cry as appropriate or use a specialist who knows what they are doing. Sounds to me like the system still has not got enough refrigerant in it. If you short out the compressor to activate the clutch can you see fluid...

    Disco 2 v Disco 200tdi for towing

I Tug a heavy twin axle Bessacarr with my 300Tdi man, no problems on motorways sits at a steady 55 up hill & down dale. Steep hills however do slow things down but I do tweak the pump to deliver slightly more fuel when towing. Still manage to pass lorries & a few caravans on occasion. Towing...

    Exhaust Help

Anyone any idea if I can get a bit to go on the back of my exhaust? Most back boxes have a turn down of the tail pipe, unfortunatly my new back box does not have this and is sending the gasses into the rear indicator. I need to direct the gasses downwards. I could possibly fabricate...

    Upgrade of front brakes.

Thanks Rob, will probably change for the drilled ones if the folding allows. I am assuming they are compatible with ABS.

    Upgrade of front brakes.

Thinking about the possibility of uprgrading the front brakes as and when the discs & pads need changing, they are ok at the moment, but.......... Has anyone used the crossdrilled & grooved non ventilated items available? Any suggestions about differing pads. I don't do too much off roading...

    Viscous Fan help please

Stu, you will know if the viscous coulling has gone by the incredible noise it will make. Sounds like a bucket of bolts in a washing machine. You could try this simple test:- lift the bonnet, ensure that all is cold then start the engine. Fairly quickly rev the engine to about 2000 and you...

    Viscous Fan help please

I used to have the same problem with my 300 Tdi untill I changed the rad. Now, even if pulling hard up long hilld the temp guage dosn't move. I tow a heavy twin axle 'van and have to negociated long inclines when leaving Cornwall. My best suggestion is to check the rad and replace if required...

    Abs modulator shock !

There is a good garage in Penryn just down the road from Asda, they look after mine and all are Land Rover nuts. I have always found them fair and their work good. They are Steve Toyer Land Rover. The Phone number is in your book. Call them, I am sure they could offer advice.

    squeaky fan belt/tensioner?

Don't get me started on belts and squeaking or chirping. Having got through numerous Land Rover belts having the air con pump front bearing rebuilt and god knows what elseI now will not let a Land Rover belt near my 300TDI. I use Continental belts. They have a ribbed back so there is less...

Central locking and no fob ?

If you lock the car on the key, if fitted it will not arm the volumectric sensors so you could leave a dog in the car. Not sure if yours, as it is an early 300Tdi will have this feature, not all models did. The sensors are either above the passenger side B pillar or occasionally above the...

    Help i'm lost

Need to know which engine, if it's the V8 Petrol & automatic, then you are doing OK for around town driving. If diesel & manual, then someting amiss. Let us know which engine & gearbox you have, either manual or auto & the age of the Disco may help.

    Which discovery is best?

When I was looking for a 4X4 I activly avoided all Land Rovers, but ended up with a nice 300 Tdi. My advice is look and look and look. There are a few good ones out there, but most people are tending to hang on to the early ones, due to the simplicity of the engine and running gear ie no...

    Switzerland in a 1994 Feender?

Took my disco to Nurenberg & Bayruth in January, never missed a beat, only used a tank & a bit to get there. Only problem was the driver who has decided he is too old to drive 800 miles in one hit. I have friends who take their 200tdi 'fender all over europe with little problem. The secret is...
