    Extra Diff Lockers

Thanks for the links guys, very useful. The last one is rather long winded, but I read the links in the links too and I'm a bit more clued up now. It's said that a Detroit locker is no good for short wheelbase vehicles, under 120" just to make things complicated. Yet a lot of people swear by...

    Extra Diff Lockers

I've done some reading on the net and I quite like the sound of the Detroit Truetrac as long as they work. I don't like the idea of completely locking a diff due to the strain put on the halfshafts of the wheel with traction (ARB or Detroit locker), so these Truetrac jobbies sound fairly gentle...

    Extra Diff Lockers

Hey guys. My next plan on my 110 will be to fit extra diff lockers to the front and rear diffs. I'm not really sure what sort to buy, but I want to keep things simple. I know the ARB Air Lockers are popular, and remember a company called Detroit doing some kind of locker too. What I'm interested...

    What winch to buy?

Who should I check out? The Landy zone sponsors?

    What winch to buy?

Yep, just like that! Maybe without the A-bar if possible but that's pretty nice. What is it? I've seen the TDS winches. David Bowyer sells them? They look good but the line pull is quite quick and they seem to struggle under load?. That's the sort of price range I'm looking at, £500-£750ish...

    Accidental damage due to series...

I've never had a series, but I do remember a very funny accident my mate had in his 109 when I was following him to a job. To keep it short he'd stopped at some traffic lights at a T junction. We'd been sat there for a couple of minutes when a youngish lad in a Mondeo came hammering around the...

    What winch to buy?

I'm after a mid range winch and bumper for my 110 (when I get it). I'm not into serious off roading, but want something reasonable. I don't really want a posh tube type thing and want to keep the front end looking as original as possible. What sort of thing should I be looking for, and just as...

Took a Defender out for a test drive today

Well I took another out today. An L reg 200 tdi this time, and it was much nicer! It wasn't in great condition, the rear bulkhead (if that's what you call the panel below the back window?) had a small hole corroded through the side, but the chassis was better. The front bulkhead had some surface...

Took a Defender out for a test drive today

I never thought about the bushes etc. When I bought my high mileage 110 that I had a few years ago it was from a main dealer. They did a lot of work to the drivetrain and replaced a lot of parts to make it drive better. I guess I'll just have to keep looking and maybe be prepared to replace a...

Took a Defender out for a test drive today

Hey guys. I went out Landy shopping today and had a look at the first one on my list of "possibles". What a shock it was. It felt like a tractor - sloppy gearbox, heavy as hell clutch, leaned all over the place on corners and a couple of times I thought I was going to die! :rolly: Ok I drove...

    110 tipper conversion

Yeah, I've read a lot of your posts on the forum and you seem to know your stuff. I'm the opposite, I've got lots of kit and will soon have a good workshop but have no idea what I'm doing! I've just moved house and I'm building a good sized garage with a pit at the end of the driveway ready for...

    110 tipper conversion

So there may even be a chance I could use the original Hi-cap body on top of the transit frame then? Assuming I can provide enough support to the base of the tub? That would look nice but I've never seen it done before. I know a good welder if I need to make a few adjustments, I'm sure a crate...

    110 tipper conversion

Make one?? You mean steal parts from a transit or similar and adjust the tub to fit? That's not a bad idea. Has anyone on here done a project like this? I can't weld, not well enough to fabricate my own tub and supports. I was hoping to find a unit off of a crashed 110 or 130 and just bolt it...

    110 tipper conversion

Does anyone know of a good supplier of these alloy rear bodies? I'd like to add a tipper to my Hi-cap when I get it but all the sites I look at want thousands of pounds for them! I'm after a used one, or at least one that's not going to cost me more than the base vehicle!

Low to High on the move

I guess that's a chance you have to take sometimes. At least R380s and LT230s are fairly common on ebay! I guess you could just leave it in low really. My 300tdi pulled up to around 35mph in low 5th I think, which is as quick as it will get with a heavy trailer on a hill anyway! I'm...

Low to High on the move

I seem to remember you could go all the way through the box in low, then go from 5th low to 3rd high and carry on as normal? I've seen it done by people who were well into their landys at the time, but I've lost contact with them since then. Now I'm thinking about it I think it was up through...

Low to High on the move

Hey guys, I have another question for you. I remember when I had my last Defender I was just starting to figure out how to change from low to high range on the move. It was probably simple but I can't remember the procedure as I didn't actually do it before I got rid of it! How do you do it...

    Military paint question

Great, thanks for the replies guys. It's not on the chassis or axles as far as I'm aware, it's just on the bodywork! I'll walk around it with a mallet tapping the panels to check for filler and get under it with the hammer, that should please the seller :D I've been had with a landy before...

    Military paint question

Hi guys. I'm looking at a Hi-cap landy for sale locally and it looks really good. Chassis and bulkhead are sound, 60k miles with a Tdi engine, 1994. My only doubt is the paint job, it's covered in what the seller describes as "NATO black rubberised paint"? What is this? Is it the regular matte...

    How slow is a 110 TD5?

It depends what you expect I guess. Most of my experience is with 300tdi Defenders, but when I've driven a Td5 on the odd occasion I've found them to be quite perky to be honest. If you want a landy then you'll have to pay a lot in fuel to make it go faster than a Td5 will!
