DSE - Clutch signal always closed

For starters, I'm refering to a 1998 2.5 DSE manual P38. In an attempt to diagnose my Cruise Control problems (ie, not working), I've concluded that the BECM is constantly getting a closed signal for the clutch sensor. This is what I believe is preventing the CC from engaging, as getting a...

Rave pics vs words - Propshaft bolts

Yup, I had figured that much but I'm going with KISS on this one :) not interested in screwing that job up!

Rave pics vs words - Propshaft bolts

Mine are the same as OP: bolt heads facing the transfer box and in the other side the bolt heads are facing the diff. But I was left with the same question, how to remove the bolts from the transfer box side because there isn't enough room for them to come out.

    Esr1594l

Does anyone have the dimensions for the ESR1594L o-rings ? These are the ones that are used in the oil cooler pipes of the R380 gearbox. My old ones are knackered and the ones that seemed equal are not a good fit :(

    4 wheel TC

I recall reading that the more recent ECU (4 wheel ABS) was moved from behind the glove box and into the engine bay. If someone can confirm this, that would be a sure way, easy way, of knowing which is which.

    4 wheel TC

Here, SXC100010 (the later ABS modulator) was introduced at VIN number XA410482.

    4 wheel TC

Grab a hold of microcat and look for the ABS ECU. It will tell you exactly at which VIN number it changed. I know of at least two diesels with the later manifold (black plastic) and without TC at all (pre MY99 TC was optional and available only to the 2 rear wheels).

Gearbox oil cooler pipe clamps - How many ?

Cool, that's the one I have installed right now. Thanks for clearing that up for me.

    Front propshaft phase offset

Sorry, wantaquad. Maybe you misunderstood me or I failed to explain myself properly but I wasn't doubting your input on this. What I asked about in my 2nd post was if it is usual for these propshafts to have a key spline, because I was under the impression that there wasn't one.

    running hot when towing caravan

But, if it is indeed overheating, he should be loosing some coolant from the header tank, as it boils and expands. How can the gauge read hot and the coolant level remain steady ?

    Front propshaft phase offset

Well, my mechanic friend not convinced that they are supposed to be out of line, took it apart and confirmed that there's a key spline, so the prop cannot be assembled with the ends out of phase. This has now left me wondering because there are many threads on the internet about the shafts being...

R380 - removing the oil cooler housing

Top tip James, thanks! I can now confirm that there was only a minimal amount of oil coming out and that was from the pipes, not from the gbox. I've since removed the oil cooler pipes and replaced the o-rings. In the bottom most pipe the o-ring has heavily compressed and deformed. The top pipe...

Gearbox oil cooler pipe clamps - How many ?

Since I've been messing with my gearbox oil cooler pipes I noticed that I only have one clamp that attaches the cooler pipes to the chassis. But I noticed throughout the pipe "line" there's at least two other places that are suitable to attach clamps, since there are holes drilled out exactly in...

R380 - removing the oil cooler housing

I already changed the oil when I detected that it was low, so no need to do it right now. Or can I infer, from your reply, that I'll be forced to do it when removing the cooler housing ? :)

R380 - removing the oil cooler housing

The R380 gearbox in my 2.5 DSE is leaking oil from the oil cooler pipes that come out of the oil cooler housing and I believe I can't undo the pipe's nuts without removing the housing first. Looking at the gbox it seems that the housing sits higher than the filling plug, so I'm thinking I can...

    Front propshaft phase offset

Hi. I've replaced the UJs in my front propshaft and a mechanic friend pointed out that both prop ends should be in phase (not a LR specialized mechanic though). I know that the shaft is balanced and took great care not to disturb it (and I took photos on how to assemble it again properly in...

    Replacing UJs - flange alignment

    Replacing UJs - flange alignment

I've had some driveline vibration at around 100km/h for a while and also a clunk that was heard when starting to move, so I decided to replace the UJs in the front propshaft. I marked the propshaft because I know that the spline parts need to be in correct alignment. But I did not mark the...
