Freelander 1 New commercial van project

Gave the Freelander a good run this weekend over to Garrison in Fermanagh. Had one mishap. Stopped in Belleek on Saturday afternoon for a wander and just after starting her up again to leave it cut out and then suddenly there was diesel all over the floor, gushing out in front of the offside...

    Belts

There is a tensioner on the belt for the Aircon compressor that has an M6 bolt holding it in position and another M6 bolt as a pivot. You have to loosen that to release and tension the belt. You do not need to move the compressor itself (which is held on with three long bolts extending...

Freelander 1 New commercial van project

Been using the Landy for commuting for a few weeks now and going very well. Working out a lot cheaper to run than my Subuaru Outback. Found a few small issues still to sort. A few bulbs in the dash and heater controls needed to be replaced but easily sorted. Fitted a rear wiper but motor...

    G4 CHALLENGE BUMPER BAR

Yes, Colin fitted the V6 bumper to provide more space to fit a winch. Fitted same as the original bumper otherwise.

    G4 CHALLENGE BUMPER BAR

Mine had a huge bull bar and V6 bumper on the front when I acquired it. Much prefer the standard look myself. Before: After:

What have you done to your Freelander today

Stuck some stickers on to try and hide the dodgy paint on the door

Freelander 1 New commercial van project

Just a bit of cosmetic tidying today. Driver's side speaker grill was rusty so door cards off and speaker grills sprayed satin black. Fitted some front mudflaps and touched up a bit of bodywork and it is pretty much done (for now).

    Freelander mk1 interior lights

Quite likely fuse has been removed because interior lights will not go off due to the problem with the CCU Nodge mentioned above. Does the clock work? That is on same fuse. Fuse is the fifth from the right on the top row in the fuse box behind the driver side glove box. Mine has same issue...

Lucky if there was 100ml in mine. Took about 750 to fill the replacement one.

Well I am not surprised the old diff was whining a bit. Virtually no oil in it!

Freelander 1 New commercial van project

Wow, that is certainly quick service. Only spoke to Austen at Bell Engineering yesterday about my knackered VCU and asked him to send me a reconditioned replacement with new carrier bearings fitted and the posty delivered it to Northern Ireland this afternoon!

    Freelander 1 rear diff

I assume you also changed the mountings for the diff?

Freelander 1 New commercial van project

Well had my VCU checked out by Austen at Bell Engineering and apparently it was one of the worst ones he had tested, very tight and deffo not one of their recon units. Recon VCU with new support bearings on its way to me and more money spent!

    Project: The impossible utopia - Freelander S TD4 3 door (2002)

Changed the strut bearings/top mounts on mine when I was removing the lift kit. The old ones were well notchy.

Freelander 1 New commercial van project

No intention to use the van for any serious off roading and didn't like the extra stress the lift kit was placing on the drive shafts so rather keep it standard. The mud tyres were pointless for the use I give the van (and were worn out anyway). It has enough ground clearance for my use as it...

Freelander 1 New commercial van project

Bit more progress and some more issues. Took it to get the tracking done, which was predictably miles out after having been set up for the now removed lift kit and big wheels. Front done OK, but tyre place was unable to loosen the adjustable link rods on the rear suspension so will have to...
