Many thanks for the inmail Bob. Especially with it being the weekend. Yes, the price point of Britpart is all too attractive! Because I was under the bl00dy thing all day, I was too busy trying to get it finished to stop and think - so thank you for your suggestion ( most annoylying the long...

S3 Petrol Manifold to Front pipe section Jacking Advice?

What I had hopped to have been a nice enjoyable half-saturday job has (typically) dragged on all day. Undefeated by installing new manifold studs, and with the front end jacked up with both wheels off, I just cant seem to get the angle of the front pipe section between the gearbox hanger and...

Series 3 Petrol bell housing clanking -

Cool. I will look that up. I have been advised the engineering is semi retired, but is there go-to chap for all things series gearbox related. As I say, impressed by Simmonites. From now on, I shall be buying parts etc through them. Just cant wait to have it back in again and bombing around the...

Series 3 Petrol bell housing clanking -

Just an update to the thread - gearbox is now being sent to Simmonites for a re-build. I, well, kinda got it all out on the bench and after a rather large whisky and ginger I thought, I know, I'll get the gearbox appart and have a look. Lots of minior wear, but generally, time for a full...

Thanks Bobsticle. I was looking over the workshop manual last night and would agree. Only a few parts to inspect and replace. Thanks for the advice on bleeding the clutch hydraulics.

Series 3 Petrol bell housing clanking -

Good evening I have an intermittent clanking coming from the bell housing. I bought the S3 with it having had a heavy duty Borg/Beck clutch fitted in 2018. The clanking sounds like sauce pan lids, or a spanner tapping on the bell housing. It emits this noise mainly when coasting, yet tonight it...

Series 3 Sudden Gearbox Noises - Any Guesses?

Hi Rob, appreciate this was a few years ago, yet I have the very exact symptoms. Sounds like clanking or tapping on the transfer case. Spent today stripping down to get the box out. That's next weekend. Anyway, what was your issue? UJ or gearbox.

has anyone got a hydraulic PTO?

I had not thought of selling it. There is very little wear on any of it, so I might think of listing it. I will review whats its value might be. I have the pump, the transmission selector rod and the hydraulic switch with the tank in the wing. Thanks again

has anyone got a hydraulic PTO?

Gill - I have stripped my Dowty Hydraulic system off my S3 and contemplating getting the reservoir tank from out of the wing. My s3 is ex-Coventry City Council bus depot and I believe it was sent out when a bus broke down, which judging from the condition was pretty rare. My grandfather bought...

Series 3 Heater Fan/Hamster Wheel removal

Yup, your right! The spindle rust was preventing any movement up or down. Now resolved! Thanks again. Best Wishes

Series 3 Heater Fan/Hamster Wheel removal

Thanks Blackburn. Yes, removed the grub screw and it would not budge. In the end I applied a blow torch (a kitchen version) under a tight flame. Threw in some WD40 and then left it for an hour. After a pot of team it would move, but not come off the shaft. It was a rusty drive shaft retaining...

Series 3 Heater control valve makers

Well, the emery worked a treat. The rust on the spindle was preventing the brass centre from moving. Removing the rust, followed with WD40 got it off. Its all nicely apart and in the acid bath, waiting for a repaint next week now. Thanks for your help. Considering the motor is 40 years old...

brake pad cleaner - clever. That will probably reduce any oily residue. Currently, its covered in WD40. Thanks for the helpful advice. Thanks

Series 3 Heater control valve makers

Its covered in rust (thin 1970's steel?) and I think it has a brass middle, which is connected to the motor spindle. I have removed the allen key screw ok (which is in the brass section). Now thinking of just placing it upside down and in the acid bath - see if that might lodge it. It would be a...

Series 3 Heater control valve makers

Thanks Webley. Mine is the original metal one and I suspect motor. I have a replacement plastic one, which is not as deep, probably 8cm shorter. It is covered in rust yet works surprisingly well. The Landy was my grandfathers. He would not have spent anything on it unless he had to. I am keen to...

Series 3 Heater Fan/Hamster Wheel removal

Having kept the heater motor frm screaming with WD40 this winter, I thought it was time to get it on the bench. It is covered in rust, but runs sweetly on the bench with some oil in the right places. Whilst ion the bench, thought that I would de-rust the snail, the fan and the motor components...

Series 3 Heater control valve makers

Hi again. Having replaced the heater valve with the brass elbow (it works a treat and as you advised, cant tell without the fan on) I have now taken the heater motor out, since it has been whinning. Having got it out on the bench, there is some play in the hamster/wheel fan. I have removed the...
