    Mapping Green Lanes

you mean something like this. Mind you, as you can see from the 3rd photo, it's all been changes a bit since. The GPS receiver is now stuck under the sunroof, the netbook is a slightly larger one, and the bracket that you see with the "sucker" on in photo 2 that was never sturdy enough, has...

    are 300tdi auto anygood offroad

I have 300TDi auto and it's great for off-roading, but you must select a gear similar to what you'd do in a manual, don't just use "D" The only slight whinge that I have is that 1st gear (even in low) is too high a gear for serious downhills, were-as in a manual it'll hold it back, in the auto...

Help - 90 diesel wont stay in high ratio :(

Check the linkage, unfortunately you'll have to lift up the floor panels etc to get a good view. If the landy has been used off road, and the hi-lo has been used ham-fisted, there is a part of the linkage that's made to *give*, it's one of the jaw ends and it's made up of a pressed steel...

    stuck hub!! please help!!!

Has it moved at all? if it has then push the hub back on, and pull hard, push & pull, this is like using a slide hammer. if it's till not for moving, you really do need a good strong hydraulic puller. but for safety sake get it resting onto something solid, axle stands, good strong blocks of...

How hard is it to change a fuel tank in a fender 90?

The bolts for the small outrigger bracket are 8mm if I remember correctly, but if you need new nuts for the sills, I think they're 6mm. drown them in WD40 before attempting to remove the nuts.

I have them fitted to the Disco, also large MT tyres. they give you some lock back. you will need to watch that the tyres don't stick out too far.

How hard is it to change a fuel tank in a fender 90?

I did my defender 90 tank. 200 TDI, the tank is under the drivers seat. You need to remove the panel over the tank and remove the sender/fuel pipes. then you'll also need to remove the O/S sill (now is the time to fit the rock sliders) there is a small chassis bracket to the front of the tank...

Sets recommended to fit a Disco (offroading)

Depending on the year of the disco, will set the width & hole spacing of the seat mountings. Later disco's have seats that have a reasonably standard mounting pattern as a lot of cars, especially the BL range. Other than that, you'll need to weld up a frame that you can bolt to the original...

    Alternator replacement/upgrade?

First of all, the A127 alternator is dead easy to refurbish. Find this guy on ebay * 8617petert * he sells refurb kits that have everything in them. Just message him from ebay if he doesn't have any refurb kits on at the time. If you do refurb your own alternator, just be careful when fitting...

    wandering steering

The first thing to do is to check properly all the bushes, especially the panhard rod ones (my Disco used to eat them before I fitted poly bushes) now check all the track rod ends & ball joints, don't forget the one on the drop arm etc. Then once you're happy with the bushes and joints, check...

    CB Radio - Need Help

This the most likely problem, although you don't need to check for ohms specifically, just see if there's a connection or not by switching the continuity check on the meter. Undo the wire from the aerial and the CB, now with 1 lead to the inner pin of the PL259, and 1 lead to the outer body...

    Raised suspension and towing

As has been said, the adjustable tow hitch is the way to go. When your trailer / caravan. boat is hitched up, the A frame of the trailer should be near enough horizontal, not pointing upwards, then providing you've loaded the trailer / caravan correctly and haven't got too much nose weight on...

    High lift Jack

The Halfrauds jack is "adequate" but if you are going to work on your vehicle yourself, treat yourself to a better one, I have one of these. "Sealey 3003CXQ Trolley Jack Premier 3 Tonne Super Rocket Lift" and it will lift any 4x4 effortlessly, it also has a much wider footprint that makes it...

    2" lift

The prop & flange from a 200Tdi disco will fit, even with the lift. you need to search on here to find out how to remove the flange from your diff, it can be a bit of a sod. Get rid of the doughnut whichever way you go.

RIP Broken Britain.. You went soft on discipline!.. You went soft on immigration! You pay people not to work!... You went soft on crime.. Parents were told.. 'No you can't smack the kids'.... Teachers were prevented from chastising kids in schools.. The police couldn't clip a...

    overheated when towing

First thing that I would do is to remove the rad, flush it out, and make sure the fins aren't bunged up stopping air flow. whilst it's off, change the water pump (not expensive usually) and the thermostat. With those items done for not too much money, it should cure any cooling problems, if they...

    Jate ring ?

Where the "Tie-down" loops are mounted to the chassis, remove them and bolt the Jate rings there. I had mine so they were loose enough to move by hand, but didn't swing about.
