Optima YT 5.5 Battery in a Disco?

Yes, I'm planning to use it as my main bat. I can't justify 2 bats at the moment hence wanting to use the "really big" yellowtop which does claim to be a duel purpose bat (starter and deep cycle). The plan is that this bat will survive long enough to become my aux. bat on a 2 bat system...

Optima YT 5.5 Battery in a Disco?

Anyone tried fitting an Optima Yellow Top 5.5 into the standard battery bay of a Disco 1 (1998). I have measured the bay and reck it should just about squeeze in but its a bit of an expensive mistake if it wont quite go (I'll be ordering it on-line!). I'm aware that the clamp will probably...

    Batteries

I'm sure this has been covered before but can anyone offer sugestions on which battery is best. I cant really aford a twin battery system as it doesn't get used enough and I don't have anything like a winch to draw high power. The Disco is a standard 300TDi and use is as follows, mostly as a...

    Wonky back end

Hi, I suspect it has been this way for a while but I've just noticed my Disco 1 ('97 R) is lop sided at the rear! The tyres are identical but the distance from floor to wheel arch is 32" on the passanger side and only 30.5" on the drivers side. Now obviously at that age there is quite a lot of...

Asda, stuck HGV, and a scenario.

I was meaning in a general sense - eg. 44T rolling is equivalent to pulling a Landy in mud upto its hubs? arches? bonnet? roof? Obviously we can't calculate the exact effect of mud as every puddle of mud is different but I just wandered in a rough sense how bad a rolling load can be compared...

Asda, stuck HGV, and a scenario.

Not til you posted this, found it by accident and saw a mention of snow / ice and it just seemed to fit. Oh well :)

Asda, stuck HGV, and a scenario.

But how do these strains relate to the strain of pulling a stranded fellow landy out of the mud on a pay&play etc? At the end of the day probably 30%+ of the people on here would hitch a stuck mate up and pull them out of mud upto the eyeballs (some of you may even snatch it out!). It's not...

Couple of Q's from a 300 TDi novice...

Welcome to the world of the 300TDi Disco, mines a '97. regards a) see: Me asking exactly the same question But basicly there is a locking ring on the switch in the side of the gearbox under the Disco (I think a post in the thread linked above shows a picture of where), you need to slacken...

Front Tow Eye / Recovery Point

Cheers, it looked right, just wanted to check. A metalworking mate of mine is planning to knock me up a nice heavy duty fitting to bolt onto the original point but if that all goes wrong I may be interested in what yours is worth? Thanks :)

Front Tow Eye / Recovery Point

So looking at the image on the above link and on the underside of the disco, does the eye bolt on with the same bolts the bumper assembly is aparently fixed to? I've got the ~4inch square chassie coming towards the front and what looks loke the bumper mounted at the end with 2 bolts going...

    Ford Ranger Ads

Has anyone else heard the new adverts for the Ford Ranger on the radio? Is it just me or are they trying to make out theve just invented the wheel (or rather 4 of them). I have heard 2 of them so far, the first said: "New Ford Ranger, now with 3T towing capacity" - My 13yr old Disco does...

Well mine isn't that bad though I havn't had the carpets all the way out yet!

More bits that apear to be missing on my Disco

cheers, the floor of the boot is suprisingly solid but the front footweels have rusted through into the sills in places (may need sorting before MOT if it gets any closer to the drivers seat mounting).

More bits that apear to be missing on my Disco

OK I get the idea I promise not to put any oil in or stuff a bolt in the drain hole and it is the centre diff locking linkage I'm trying to free up. Diff lock works OK (except no indicator light on dash) but linkage seized solid as probably been used no more than twice in it's lifetime so now I...

More bits that apear to be missing on my Disco

Sorry for appearing a bit thick but I'm a spark enthusiasticly but haphazardly trying to learn my way around the underside of a mechanical masterpiece. The thread in the hole in question looked suspiciously clean and unmuddied / corroded so I assumed it had only recently been exposed (as most...

More bits that apear to be missing on my Disco

I'm right in saying that there should be a bolt in here as a plug to keep stop the oil falling out of the transmission shouldn't there? I was in the process of trying to free off my very stuck diff when I noticed the hole (see pictures attached). Theres no oil on the drive so guess it has...

Front Tow Eye / Recovery Point

No, I mean the factory fitted tow eye that sticks out through the bumper (only on one side) not the 2 vertical U's further back as I said in my OP. I'm not looking for true snatch recovery or a steering guard as it doesn't get onto anything rough enough to realy warrent it, I was only meaning...

Front Tow Eye / Recovery Point

Thanks, do I gather from this that while unpleasantly expensive compared to a welded option most people suggest buying a proper bolt on eye? Is this what would have been fitted originally or is it just concern about if the weld is not good it may go when snatched? -EDIT- Though looking back at...
