    ACE - Bin or Repair?

Guys My 2002 153k miles Disco (owned from new by me) has succumbed to a ACE failure. The pipes exiting the valve assembly (under the drivers door) have corroded through, and leaking. The Dealer suggests that there's more pipes heavily corroded and I should change all affected ones at the...

    Front hub/wheel bearings gubbed?? TD5 51Plate

Yes. You can't always feel the play in the bearings by jacking and wiggling the wheel. I couldn't - even when my hubs were shot to bits... The MOT guy picked it up tho - he jacked the car and levered with crowbar to demonstrate the play in the bearings...

    disco td5 coolant leak

It's probably a manufacturer's blanking plate (core plug)... See: http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f8/core-plug-sprung-leak-70002.html I had this on my TD5. I temporarily put some rad-weld type stuff in the header tank and it stopped. Temporary repair was around 50000 miles ago!

    Disco td5 Tyre Presure

I run slightly higher - 30 front, 40 back. A little more MPG on-road. Also (as Andy says) I often have heavy loads. so pays to keep the pressures on the high side... Higher pressures can maye the ride a bit harsher tho when the car's not loaded...

Long Term TD5 Report (150000 miles)

Yes, luck of the draw sometimes. When I bought my Landy in 2002, a mate scoffed at "British unreliability" and bought a Subaru Forester. After countless problems, including 3 gearboxes, he dumped the Subaru after 3 years... I once owned a VW Jetta. In 3 years and 90k miles, it never...

Long Term TD5 Report (150000 miles)

Thebiglad - yes you are correct, most of the 150k miles have been "car duties" with some light offroading/greenlaning thrown in. However, the Disco frequently pulls trailers (up to 2 ton), and hauls loads that a "normal" car would struggle with...

Long Term TD5 Report (150000 miles)

Back in 2007, I wrote an article on this very interwebsite, happy to have completed 100,000 miles in my Discovery 2. Now 7 years old, and at 150,000 miles, I thought you may be interested in sharing my experiences of driving 150,000 miles over 7 years in a Discovery 2 TD5. The vehicle was...

    TD5 Battery

9 years is pretty good. I have had 2 other vehicles, where the batteries (not in my Landy) failed at 7 years. Replaced with Gel-based batteries. My Disco TD5 is now 7 years old, and I won't be suprised if it fails soon ish... Some of these very cold mornings (minus 16 c) we have had in...

    ACE leak,help required

Here's some great info: ACE Problem - Leaking fluid - Land Rover UK Forums Have a look on the interweb for spare pipes, the part ~'s are in the area of RQB000400, RQB100290, RQB100310, RQG100041 - around £60 each inc vat - apparently hard to make yourself...(apparently)... I have heard that...

    Disco TD5 and ACE

Yes, the warning goes amber if there's a minor problem, and red when it's major. Description of ACE here: Active Cornering Enhancement You may be lucky, and it's just one of the accelerometers is out of tolerance (I had this problem). One is on the chassis, and the other is in the pod...

New discs and pads - front. Price?

Xena It really is pretty easy to do if you have some decent tools... If not, the garage will be buying the stuff cheaper (or at least as cheap) than you can - so just go to an independant mechanic who specialises in LR's and haggle hard! I wouldn't think that buying pads & disks elsewhere...

TD5 Brake Pipe Corrosion - Replacement Due

Battenberg - thanks for the note. I have done brake pipes before on old bangers when I was a teenager. The routing of this looks a bit tricky, and will probably take me all day by the time I've travelled to the motorfactors with my old pipe to kake a pattern for me. More mmtt (time) than mmts!

TD5 Brake Pipe Corrosion - Replacement Due

I decided not to take the job on myself. Having done some research I decided on copper brake pipes, as they last "forever". I also decided to replace the flexible pipe at the same time (i.e. the complete run). The job is too big for me to take on on the drive at home - just too much faff (and...

Is the Discovery a 'Proper' Land Rover?

Just to take a different tack. I think we have to look at an "original" land rover, that will help us see wether D2's, D3's FL2's RR's etc are "Real Land Rovers". The Encyclopedia description of Land Rover is ..."a pioneering civilian all-terrain utility vehicle launched on 30 April 1948"...

TD5 Brake Pipe Corrosion - Replacement Due

Guys 2002 TD2 Disco 2, 147000 miles (owned by me from new). I had my MOT last monday. Car sailed through as usual. However the testing chap pointed to a brake pipe in front of the fuel tank which was rusty, although he didn't fail the MOT, he did say that attention would be needed soon...
