New OEM thermostat fitted as precaution when the heads were done. Been tested and no sign of head/block issues.

Right head gasket done, pressure/compression test etc all fine, engine runs fine, but after a few miles the cooling system is pressurising enough to burst the hose to the heater matrix. Any thoughts?

Well luckily enough I jumped out of that boat, while joining the garage owner in kicking the mechanic up the arse for jumping to conclusions, it turned out not to be a slipped liner, just a simple head gasket.

Not in a million years am I going to fit a s/h engine, it's more a case of which of the options listed above I can stretch too and will work. No worries mate. I normaly do the repairs myself but not got much time at the moment and the 110 is in my garage in bits, so when I started getting...

Thanks, but at the end of the day he is a professional who makes a living from his knowledge, I would feel a bit of a fraud phoning him and asking him his advice knowing full well I am not going to give him the work as it is already in being stripped, if he volunteers the advice then fair enough.

Right thanks for that this is where I am at depending on cost: 1) 4.0 top hat block and my heads 2) 4.0 top hat block and performance/stage 1 heads 3) 4.6 top hat block and my heads 2) Performance Stage one 4.6 long engine 220bhp(from V8 Developments) 1 & 2 is a straight swap no problems...

They are on the list, only problem is a top hat job with heads is about £500 over what I can afford going on their website prices.:(

Got the dreaded slipped liner problem so rather than just change the block I have decided to bite the bullet and do the job properly, including a recon engine, no point in spending £££s and cutting corners, any recommendations on suppliers of recon engines that are not a complete arm and leg.

Rubbish they pay out the market value of the vehicle, mother had a cat C Peugeot estate that I put back on the road, which she then totalled and got paid out just over four grand which was about 85% of book price.

In practical terms it's fairly easy and you can often get a full set of parts and trim on fleabay, but as has been mentioned apparently only those with air suspension were type approved for 7 seats. You are going to have to tell your insurance company if you do it, so why not ask them before you...
