What have you done to your Freelander today

Clutch biting point was getting lower and lower and have been struggling to get it in gear at times so I changed the clutch master cylinder. What a transformation! Biting point is now halfway up and all is well. Just hope that it lasts... Didn't even need to bleed it :)

What have you done to your Freelander today

Even with them all working I'd describe the sound as adequate rather than high end - boomy and a fair bit of distortion at higher volumes. Are they all like this or is there something wrong with mine? :(

What have you done to your Freelander today

Pulled all of the door cards off and cleaned up the speaker connections. I've now gone from three working speakers to nine!

Rejoined after a few years away - Freelander content!

Thanks! Not sure about the water to be honest. It has rained since I dried it out and no more seems to have got in, so I'll see what happens. I think that it had been pressure washed just before I went to see it, so may have forced some past the seals I suppose... If it starts leaking again...

Rejoined after a few years away - Freelander content!

Not so much an introduction as a reintroduction, as I was on the forum briefly back in 2006 when I had a Series 3. I replaced that with a Series 2a a few years back, which I still have. Anyway, my wife decided that she fancied a change from her BMW convertible which would allow her to more...

    First silly question

A quick search on this site for 'gear lever' turned up this; http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f6/new-series-landies-red-yellow-levers-31268.html?highlight=gear+lever Was someone murdered in your cab?

    Series 2a Convert Front end

Change the bonnet and wings, fit a Defender front panel and grille, leaving your original one in place. Fabricate a bonnet release as the defender is cable operated from inside the cab. Can I ask why you would want to though? Do you need more space for an engine change or do you prefer the...

    7.50" General SAGs

I tried to learn the didgeridoo but I couldn't get the hang of the circular breathing thing... Haven't given up though, and it makes trips to B&Q more interesting as you can get some good sounds out of their plastic drainpipes

    Series 3 SWB canvass ???

Why are you uncomfortable with this? I assume that the army doesn't use series 3's any more, so what are you suggesting they should have done with it? If they have hundreds of them it would be cost effective to sell them or to kick the arse of whoever over-ordered back in the 80's(!), but I...

    fitting electronic ignition and waterproofing?

OK found it - they're called 'Retro Rockets' and I ordered my Aldon / Pertronix Ignitor for my series 111 via their website; http://www.vintageperformance.com/retrorockets/ and paid via PayPal - although I think you can also pay by credit card. The part number for the one to fit my...

    Series II everyday car?

If you don't like the tilt I have a hardtop you could swap it for! Seriously though I'd keep the tilt on all year round - hardtops take up a lot of room when they're stored after all. You might want to consider an overdrive for everyday use, unless you're happy with a noisy 55mph maximum, but...

    fitting electronic ignition and waterproofing?

I've just replaced the points on my s111 with a Pertronix / Aldon system that fits inside the dizzy - works fine. I got it direct from an American company at a total cost of around £45 including shipping (from Southampton I think), which was about half of the cost of buying it from a UK...

Has anyone carried out this swap? What bits do you need apart from the engine and box? Any problems in fitting or do they go straight in?

    Canvas?

They come up on Ebay once in a while - in fact you've just missed one; http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4634847855&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&rd=1 Not particularly helpful I know, except it'll give you an idea about the price...

    Points alignment

OK thanks. I might try opening up the hole where the adjustment screw goes a bit to see if I can align them a bit better.

    Points alignment

Just fitted a new set of points to my Series 3 (Ducellier distributer) and I noticed that the contacts don't line up properly (see attached picture). Is this usual? What have I done wrong now? Cheers, Simon

    Starter motor problem

I had to disconnect the down pipe from the manifold on my S3, but then it's got a Defender 90 engine and a pre-engaged starter - I would have thought that your starter would have come off OK but clearly not! The next problem you're likely to have is when you connect the down pipe back on and...

    Starter motor problem

I know how you feel! The rattling noise on your drive home was probably the cog on the end of the starter destroying itself since it was stuck in mesh with the ring gear on the engine. Mine did the same, and although the starter bendix was completely chewed up the ring gear was OK - you'll see...
