will the engine actually run with it timed on the exhaust stroke as it looks like it's a turn out ?

Rebuilt engine 2.5 TD 19j running but very rough and lots of :(white smoke. Looks like my timing might be 180 deg out . Will the engine run even when 180 deg out ? I've got the timing pin in position on flywheel, and both valves are closed on cylinder 1 cylinder 4 is showing valve movement so...

Well it's going now .... BUT not very well , blowing white smoke so must be the timing of the inj pump. Started it with a few blasts of easy start then gradually the diesel took over now starts after quite a bit of cranking. I've seen reference to good post about setting up the inj pump timing...

OK ,thanks , that's sounds more like it. Having taken the old switch apart it does have 4 positions for contacts to make/break . Still need to follow wiring and see why it's not connecting :tea

So if position 2 switches the glow plugs on , how do they go off ? Since after starting the key returns to position 2 ? Would seem that they will be on permanently .

I'm trying to figure why I can't get a live feed for the glow plugs on a TD2.5 19j engine. Fitted new ignition switch . Getting power to all connections white, brown orange (radio) white /red to stater solenoid black /white fuel cutoff but the remaining contact which should be glow plugs isn't...

Thanks for the kind offer Iamrobbie. disco mania has already stripped one off for me. Not difficult to remove with the right tools . Cam cover holder and puller for the pump pulley. Hopefully now I've got new ignition switch the glow plugs will also work, just need to fit injector pump, rebuild...
