Have you tried Colin at Patterson off road, it's not far from the Renault garage on Brenda Road 264445, he has a few Series motors in various states of disrepair

    Low Pressure or High Pressure?

You don't need the cats for the MoT an 'M' plate vehicle. Provided the emmissions are within tolerance there isn't an issue.

    Any extra help guys

Take the dizzy cap off and gently tweak the rotor arm clockwise, if it moves more than 5-10 degrees you've managed to dislodge the springs off the mechanical advance which is under the baseplate. It's a 10 minute fix with a bic pen top, but you will have to take the dizzy out and strip it so...

A number of issues that may be linked.

The MoT on my motor was definitely written in crayon, every bush split, boot floor rotten, 1 tyre illegal, 3 of 4 track rod end had split boots, battery not secured, emmissions - you could smell the unburnt petrol a mile away when it was moving, exhaust blowing, etc, etc. That was when I bought...

    Dead cat hiding in exhaust

I have absolutely no idea how my motor ran when I bought it. A top end rebuild revealed 1 plug cross threaded, both exhaust manifolds blowing each on two cylinders, inlet manifold leaking, injectors at 45% flow rate, 6 were leaking, fuel pressure regulator on it's last legs, valves were gummed...

I'm at the same stage but mine needs most of the lip replacing:(. Fortunately my local independant, Patterson Off Road in Hartlepool, are making up a nice set for me to attach with the hot metal glue stick:)

What size are the head bolts?

Make sure you have deep (long) sockets too, particularly for the back off the engine where a short extension can be too long.

Replace 3.9 v8i Head Bolts or Not?

Buy yourself a tap to clean the threads. I paid £4 for mine off UK eBay it made the job so simple and the tap will last for many years to come, I'm sure you'll find one on Oz eBay. I replaced the bolts when I changed my head gaskets simply because I didn't know the state of the existing items...

    Fuel Pipe

Does anybody have any idea what type of fuel pipe I should be buying from tank to filter? And, who would you recommend as a supplier? I don't fancy paying £120 from Beamends for 3 pipes:eek:

    Fuel Pressure Regulator failure

Hi guys, the fuel presure regulator on my 3.9 Disco has failed after less than 1 mile. The car has just had a top end rebuild with new injectors and new regulator (amongst many other things), and was running perfectly. Now it won't start, no surprise there as fuel pouring out of the vacuum...

How long will it take me to replace v8i head gaskets?

I done mine for the first time a couple of weeks ago, it was dead easy. 3 hours to get everything off one day, 4 1/2 hours to put it all back another day together. I'm not including in there the fact that between the days I stripped both heads, cleaned 'em, ported 'em, polished 'em, cleaned the...
