    Engine swap

I agree with everything Alex just said - I had to do mine last year after it threw a con rod through the side of the block. Take care to make sure you disconnect all wiring to starter, glow plugs, fuel solenoid and temp sender coz if you rip any apart it is just more work to do later. If you...

TD5 seats and 300tdi lights on a 200tdi and need some tyres Help!!!!

If you've got the metalwork that the lights mount into from the 300 tdi it should be fairly straightforward to do as long as you can weld! The 300 tdi lights have more reflector area that 200 tdi units so make better use of the available light from the bulbs. I fitted uprated output bulbs...

heres a picture of my disco 200tdi

Interior is 200 tdi so I'm guessing it's had the later lights and grill fitted. I did this to mine and if you look closely the indicators don't quite match up with the front of the wing (or are 300 tdi's like that as well?). Also, the bumpers look like 200 tdi as well.

    Intercooler upgrade cruising?

Isn't the idea of fitting uprated intercoolers to reduce the exhaust gas temp as well? If you increase the turbo boost and tweak the injection pump to increase power you run the risk of melting pistons and damaging the turbo - usually when powering up long hills under load. Lowering the intake...

TD5 seats and 300tdi lights on a 200tdi and need some tyres Help!!!!

The 300 tdi headlamps are a worthwhile upgrade over the original 200 tdi (Sherpa) units. I changed mine 2 years ago and I can actually see the road in front of me at night now! It was dangerous before I did it and not the easiest of jobs but well worth the effort.

    steering box seals

I rebuilt mine about 8 years ago with a seal kit, it took me a day and was a bit of a faff but it hasn't leaked since so was worth doing. I didn't have access to Rave manual then and my Haynes manual just said it can only be done by a dealer so I looked in an old Haynes manual for the Range...

    noisey alternator

I've bought from LR Direct but never had to return anything so fingers crossed they sort you out ok. Just one other thought - did you check that the pulleys line up ok and that there isn't anything that could be fouling the alternator fan? Also, is the drive belt ok? I'm just trying to think...

    noisey alternator

They have brushes but only for the field coil and they use a slip-ring commutator so it shouldn't be clicky like a dynamo might be. As you say, the output from the main windings is AC and fed direct to the rectifier diodes. Regards, Peter.

    grease everywhere please help !!!

This happened to me with my first range rover (a 1979) and it was a collapsed swivel bearing. I'd driven back from Wales wondering why the steering was even more vague than usual! Replaced both swivel bearings and all seals and it was fine again - just a bit fiddly getting the pre-load right...

    running without a viscous fan

I totally agree, took my viscous fan and cowl off 10 years ago, fitted a lecky fan off a Ford Orion (with a switch) and have never needed it. If I was stuck in traffic for long enough to boil it I would probably switch the engine off anyway.

    Steering wheel removal..

I agree with Graham and the Rave manual explains how to centralise it in some detail as well as stating that the steering wheel shouldn't be removed for small adjustments. Cheers, Peter.

    Heater Matrix

I think maybe the 300tdi can be sorted with dash in but I would love to see how you could do it on the earlier 200tdi/v8 ones. If it's possible I would try and improve mine but don't fancy stripping it all out again unless it fails completely - let us know if you find out how!

    Heater Matrix

It's a big job and dash does have to come out. Good luck with it - mine was a pain in the arse to sort and I'm still not impressed with it! While you've got it apart check the blower motor - the shaft seizes in the bearing eventually so if it hasn't been replaced before it might be about to...

    Disco 200tdi heater problems

Definitely the motor - the screeching is due to the steel shaft running unlubricated in the plain bearing. Unless you can find a way of reliably lubricating it the problem will keep coming back. I rebuilt my motor with some small instrument ball bearing races that I found at work and it's been...

    Gearstick gaiter retainer.

Those ebay gaiters don't include the retaining ring so probably won't fix your problem. I fitted some to my 200tdi and they look ok but aren't the easiest of things to fit because the leather is a lot stiffer than the original vinyl ones.

    How does your clutch feel???

I had a similar problem which turned out to be crud blocking the passage of fliud from the reservoir in the master cylinder. New master cylinder and a bleed through with new fluid sorted it. To check master cylinder operation try clamping the flexible hose off and pushing the pedal - it should...

    Rear seats fitting

Don't the rear seats hinge on the front brackets so they can be folded forward? Those rectangular "brackets" at the back don't bolt to anything - they should locate in maching recesses in the boot floor. If you have the rubber mat or carpet you should be able to see where. The seats are held in...
