Sounds like the wiper spindles are failing. Mine done this recently - ended up replacing both spindles and the cable from the wiper motor. Mines a td5, meant pulling most of the top part of the dash out to access them - not sure on a Tdci but give yourself plenty of time to do the job

+1 mine went recently, thought I had a slight oil leak when it went in for MOT but it was diesel leaking from the FPR, running down the side of the engine collecting ****e on it's way. You can see it just with the engine cover off but its easier if you take it off and get a torch in there HTH

That was my understanding to. A friend has a Td5 Disco and it sits on the motorway at 70/80 no bothers but my 110 is not sounding happy much past 60mph. My worry would be pulling away in 1st and 2nd with a full load on - especially if it's loaded with Beech logs/chip!! ;) Not sure I want...
