Series 3 109 Front Right Inner Hub Seal 1981

When I replaced my front seals a few years ago I had a devil of a job getting the half shafts back in, especially the longer one. The inner ends droop, so I couldn't get them into the diff. I got round it in the end, but is there an easy way?

Why I can't move my landrover

It's probably old enough not to require a cat?

    Engine cut off

The standard side & indicator lights are really really cheap and easy to replace. The main problem I have found is that modern bulbs have very small side 'spikes' (or whatever they are called) compared with the old ones, and can pop out of the fitting. Second thoughts - it is easy to fit the...

A lesson remembered - too late

"Phosphoric is named in the article along with Hydrochloric because they are the two most common in pickling" - phosphoric acid is of course the main ingredient in C*ca C*la, often recommended for removing rust and other discolouration.

    Not convinced on fan

I often used to run my various Land rover diesels without fanblades. No problem until I got stuck in traffic on a hot day... then I put the blades back on.

    Anderson Plug?

"Finished with a light hammering" - you'd have to be on a Land Rover forum to see this!

    Parking a 110 'sideways' with hi-lift jacks?

I parked my Maestro in a space too small for it to drive into, using a 3-ton trolley jack under the front centre. I think it would have been the tow-hook as there was no diff, of course. On a hard surface it was really easy.

Series 3 Bertie is now Historic!! VED free -- 1975

It's a good feeling - mine came a year ago. After a year you get the reminder to re-tax, though. It still has to be taxed every year, which does seem a bit unreal. Still, at the price, I don't mind.

    MOT advisory for sealing welds

I have had advisory 'tow ball cover fitted' - a minimal plastic cover to keep the cr*p off my trouser legs. So long as it's only advisory, I'm happy.

    When I was a kid ....

I realised how a differential works as soon as I saw one, made from Meccano, at a Schoolboys Exhibition, some time in the '50s. I used to love those exhibitions!

What have you done to your Landie today.

Delivered 12 bags of firewood to a friend's house. I was reminded how much better a leaf-sprung 88" rides over speed humps when it's loaded.

Advice needed on purchasing a Landy

My advice - don't go alone - take someone with you who knows what to look for. Lots of posts come on here 'I have just bought a Land Rover - how does it work?' or similar. You will want to see that the gearboxes are ok (4-wheel-drive and low ratio), engine doesn't smoke too much (old diesels...

Series 3 Engine cuts out after filling up with petrol

Yes, if you leave the filter in when using a petrol pump, it takes forever to fill. Use it when filling from a can, to avoid any sh1t getting in. You could leave it out when you're driving, but I can't see why it should be causing this problem. There is a chain attached, but on mine that's...

Front brakes locked on when drum screws fitted

Is it possible that with just the screws in, the drum is not sitting right down (ie canted at an angle)? They only hold the drum on, not pull it into position. The five wheel nuts would be guaranteed to pull the drum straight. As said above, once the wheel is on, the drum is not going anywhere.

Is the drum scored? Perhaps the new shoes need to bed in.

    Quick electrical diagnosis

If you have the same luck as me, you will now find that another connector was dislodged when you fixed that one. My ignition light warning has been hanging loose for a couple of years now, after I fixed the speedo. Always something to look forward to!
