    TD5 Head gasket blown.

The only time it got hot was in Toulouse, after that I knew there was a problem and kept an eye on it. It did start to go above norm at Coventry, which was the last time I stopped and it took the last of the water I had with me, then OK for the last run to Tamworth. Yeah, I thought I was a...

    TD5 Head gasket blown.

Terry, do you own a Red w reg MMLE by any chance? Charles, a fountain of water out or the header tank whan running and the hoses blown up like balloons, yeah, I'd say it a head gasket, unless you know of another reason why the cooling system would still have presure in it even after the car is...

    TD5 Head gasket blown.

cipx2, I've had serveral Volvo's, probably due to the fact I work for the truck side of Volvo. The last one was an 850 T5 estate, cracking car never gave any problems, but I've also had 360, 460 & 480 models, with no major problems. Infact the only problem I had was water ingress to the rear...

    TD5 Head gasket blown.

This is a 2000 TD5 ES auto and has just rolled round to 92k. I'm going to get the job done, and then it's going. It was a choice between this and a V70 D5 SE, we had the Land Rover as we've has several Volvo's and wanted a change, but what a mistake that has turned out to be. Never again...

    TD5 Head gasket blown.

Just got back (and I mean just) from hoiday in France. Broke down in Toulouse, loss of coolant, Green Flag (useless tossers) eventually get a guy out who recovers it to his workshop, apperenly a Land Rover specialist. I get a hire car for 5 days (Toyota Yaris??!!!) and they then call to say...

    slight misfire

Open the battery box cover and look down at the ecu. If it's wet, you have an oil cooled ECU. Or remove the 3 bolts that hold the engine cover on, take the cover off, and unplug from the front o/s of the head. Any oil and it's a leaky loom. Rob

    dealer honesty

Bought the wife a new Focus in '02 from the local Fraud dealers. When we collected the car, I noticed there were no rubbers on the pedal, so I brought it to the attention of the sales staff who informed me that 'they were no fitted to every model' 'Bo11ocks' I said, first off it's the ghia, top...

Oh no not again part 2

Yor filter is under the o/s rear wheel arch, unplug the wiring, unscrew the filter, separate the bolw from the filter (unscrew) and replace the filter. Fill the filter with diesel before re-fitting, switch the ingition on and listen for the fuel pump running. When it stops, depress the throttle...

    Oh no not AGAIN

Hate to be the bearer of bad news but if they skimmed your head, it's now scrap. From the manual read :- Cylinder heads must not be refaced. Replace the head assembly if warping exceeds the limit. Who did the repair? Surely they should be resposible for a replacement. Rob

Would have thought you would only replace them if you remove them, haven't had a chance to talk to JE yet. Rob. CharlesY, thanks for the advice given, hope I can return the favour sometime.

    EGR removal

Ah yes, your right, just found the section on RAVE about removal and discard the screws and locknuts. Wonder why? Me thinks a chat with the lads at JE might be in order...there units an the same estate as ours.. Rob

    EGR removal

Yes, it's the injectors I'm going to check. Can't see why you'd need to repace anything and it doesn't mention it on RAVE. And true to my usual run of luck, it gained a missfire this morning. Found the injector harness full of engine oil. Just ordered the replacements, given it a quick clean...

    EGR removal

From the look of it Charles, this one wasn't far off being bought to it's knees... It was starting to suffer with a lack of boost from cold, which with the amount round the boost sensor is hardly supprising. runs a lot better now, pulls a lot cleaner. Another thing I've got to look at is pull...

Gear box oil change, yes or no?

I'll let you know about synthetic gear oils making any difference, I'll do mine this week. (the advantages of working for a truck main dealer...!) Just ordered the gearbox filter for mine. If you never need to change it, why do we keep nearly 2000 lts of the stuff in stock? The trucks get it...

    Insurance...new driver...again im afraid

£3600 to insure a landy? ffs. Talk with an irish accent, dont pay road tax, run on red diesel and buy a battered caravan... it's cheaper.
