    Replacement Gems engine

You might be right but how much life can you expect from a replacement engine? If the rest of the wagon is in good nick it might be worth having your block fitted with tophat liners. One of the forum members who lived close to me when I lived in England got his done for around £700. Most of the...

    P38 4.6 oil rings - £££££ ?????

I did mine last year and the job is just a long, long list of relatively straightforward tasks. Nothing complicated but took me 3 days and many cups of tea. I can't remember how much it cost in parts but if you are like me you will stray into the "well I may as well replace it since I'm in here...

Does heat has an effect on Air Suspension?

Great job Spacepig. Leak found, will be sorted by the weekend and all for the relatively cheap price of 35 euro. Just think of the hundreds of euros you have saved yourself by being proactive and dealing with problem - a lesson to us all.

    p38 Shock Absorbers

Stick with the originals. They lasted 12 years so why change. I think the OEM was Bilstein but I am not sure. Someone will be along shortly to confirm or correct. I stuck with OEM when I changed my last year and wasn't disappointed.

    Not Starting or turning over

Look, this a no brainer. Read post 16 from johnP38 he has it right. With no check engine light it means that the BeCM and ECU have lost sync. You need a syncmate from BBS or some other suitable test kit that resync it.

Does heat has an effect on Air Suspension?

If it was normal surely the rear would have dropped as well? I think you just have a leak and I doubt if a few extra degrees of heat would make difference.

    Should I get a P38?

I don't think I would ever suggest to someone to buy a P38. I'm not saying they are any less reliable than any other 10-15 year old vehicle because if they are well maintained they will give you years of enjoyment. As gencybay says it is like suggesting to a friend to take a mistress - sooner...

possible problem with auto box ???

I know yours is an oil burner but I had a hot start issue on the wife's '99 4.6 which resulted in me disconnecting the engine coolant temp sensor. With the ECT disconnected the car would over rev and would not go into 4th. Maybe worth looking at since you already the ECT fault..

    Scheveningen - A warning

Surely the message you need to take away is that you need to change the RF receiver to one of the modern ones that don't take a crap every time they are left within the reaches of a transmitter. I appreciate that some transmitters are stronger than others but if you don't have the latest rxer...

    p38 mot failure

In March the tester who did the wife's Rangie wanted to fail it on the ABS lights saying they didn't go out at 7 MPH. The speedo starts at 10 MPH so how could he tell? When I pointed this out he relented and passed it. Regarding the brake pipes, they are fairly straightforward to do but it is...

    Crank shaft position sensor.

You have it spot on. When mine failed it gave the same symptoms as a failed engine coolant temp sensor I.e. difficult to hot start. I had it on a test book twice and on both ocassions no faults were diagnosed. Eventually it gave up altogether which made diagnosis easier. When I removed it the...

    4.6 v8 tapping when hot

My '97 did that from the day I bought it. Only when hot and not with enough rhythm to narrow down location. I also changed camshaft, valves, rocker gear, rings and big end and main bearings. Only thing I didn't change was the wee end bearings. It was still there when I was done. Luckily this was...

How long/deep do I need my screw to be?

Short and thick will do the trick. Actually this the correct answer to your OP. I did it on mine earlier in the year. The objective is to force the plastic casing which house the **** flaps er...I mean blend flaps apart to prevent them from snagging.
