My crazy diff ratio change idea

You're always gonna get comment (some good, some bad & some scarcastic) on this forum, but often good info based on extensive knowledge & experience. If we assume the engine uses more fuel when it working harder (regardless of revs) & producing torque, it would be interesting to see the fuel...

My crazy diff ratio change idea

Also at 70mph, surely lowering the revs from 1300 to 1100 is not gonna save much petrol ? Rememer you need a certain amount of energy or fuel to keep a brick shaped car rolling !!

    Valve Block rebuild

When you say "it drops to entry height", do you mean it stays up overnight, and then drops to Access or Standard when you start the car ? If so it's not a valve block issue.

Go to main forum list, and start there. The LZIR thread has a link to the map.

My crazy diff ratio change idea

At that price you don't know if the diffs are for sale because they are old & noisy, or how they have been treated.

In which order should I proceed for the repairs ??

I use a set of four 3 ton stands like these, although for most jobs two of the car wheels are on the ground with blocks holding them from moving. Quite stable with either the FL1 or my P38 on them. Wouldn't touch or trust those ratchet stands lots of peeps use these days.

    P38A Tuning the 4.0 thor

Depends on the Cam profile, but yes does need checking & doing. It's whether the heel of the cam is same or lower than the standard that matters. All the guides I have seen requires the tappets to be empty of oil & the gap about 40 thou with the cam on the valve close position...

According to his facebook page, he has closed down RPI now, but might respond on FB.

This worth watching. FOUT board demo.

P38A GEMS signal for ok to start.

BBS probably will not divulge the relearn OBD commands either, as it would hurt sales of their Sync tool !! Might be worth asking someone like Marty ? The actual comms uses K-Line ISO-9141 protocols (most likely same commands for any GEMS version). There's a description of the protocol...

In which order should I proceed for the repairs ??

Last time I did an FL1 prop & VCU, we used 4 axle stands. Much easier then to access everything & easy to turn the wheels or prop.

P38A GEMS signal for ok to start.

Looking at other GEMS applications, the mobilisation procedure is the same regardless of BECM or other security system. Here's how it works in a Morgan: (see attached pdf.) So to use the GEMS ECU in another vehicle without security, your options are: 1. The FOUT Tool ( I cannot find one) from...

P38A GEMS signal for ok to start.

You would need to find what data the Nanocom sends to GEMS for learn mode, plus the data format the BECM sends during starting. The GEMS will be some kind of LR specific command code via the OBD protocol. I suspect the BECM enable signal uses similar format, but I don't know the protocol...

P38A GEMS signal for ok to start.

Yes powered up & then the normal BECM start action. Doesn't matter if the engine actually runs, just for GEMS to learn the code. I read somewhere that Morgan V8 GEMS was programmed with the same code so it didn't require a BCM of any sort. . . . but treat that as a rumour rather than fact !!

P38A GEMS signal for ok to start.

Never tried it, but in theory you could do it with a Nanocom (although Nanocom might not allow FFFF). 1. In BECM menus write FFFF into the Immobilisation code. 2. In GEMS Utility menu put GEMS into Learn Mode. 3. Turn ignition off-on to trigger the BECM to sned the FFFF code to GEMS. Based on...

    Serious Battery drain

I have an old (6-7 years) battery 110AH, 750 EN in my garage I use as a temporary 12V supply for testing EAS Valve Bocks, Stereos, etc. It gets charged about once per month usually the day before I need it. Right now it's measuring 12.2V or 50% in the voltage check, but after an overnight...

P38A [P38] Common coolant leak locations

Do the pressure check with the engine up to normal temp & switched off. Make sure you check all the hose joints & around any gasket that hold coolant. Also get underneath & shine a torch up at the core plugs (they rust & leak eventually).

P38A GEMS signal for ok to start.

Read this. If the widget you have is the LRNAFOUT, it programs the GEMS ECU with FFFF so it doesn't need the code from BECM.
