    medium or soft springs?

Will medium terra firma springs be too hard on a fairly unladen (ie no extras like winch) 90? Just worried that soft springs might be too soft, anyone running mediums on a fairly standard 90?

    Which engine for 90?

if it's just a toy and you can get the engine easy, get the v8

    suspension change

ha yeah, there is a little four button control panel just by the cd player, this controls the amount of air in each shock. Basically there is a small compressor in the battery tray that feeds four valves behind the passenger seat which in turn distribute the air around. I'm not fully sure why...

    suspension change

well, perhaps i just don't set them up properly  but because you can adjust each corner individually and they don't seem to self level, i seem to be constantly adjusting them when driving. I also rekon that a set of springs would give a better ride both on and off road, might be wrong...

    new suspension

bought it cheap with them on, front right corner keeps loosing air and i reckon in the long one they will be more of a pain to repair. how much should i be looking at spending on this kit? cheers

    new suspension

i've decided to get rid of the air shocks on my 90, am i right in thinking that a set of OME's are the best to go for with standard springs? Is changing them easy ie, take off old air shocks, fit new ones and remove compressor?

    my defender on gas shocks

i don't know why, handling around corners? you can enter and exit the corner faster? I've only driven two Td5's one "chipped" and one not, neither seemed like it would "walk over" my 200tdi and one certainly doesn't. I also find that if I have a heavy trailer on the back the 200 pulls better...

    my defender on gas shocks

the dog sits up front! i'll have a look at the make as i'm not sure off the top of my head and get some pics of it raised up when i'm back from me hols. reckon it raises up about 300 - 400 mm each corner at full lift. Handling is much better when it's dropped, you can't really drive it when it's...

    my defender on gas shocks

haha they are adjustable, drop it down on the road then raise it up when the going gets rough, much easier to get a sheep in the back when you can drop the back down, good for picking up a trailers too

Land Rover Defender - First car?

i'm pretty sure older land rovers fall into quite a low insurance group, Td5's are higher for sure but I reckon insurance will be cheaper than any 106/saxo/punto grot box that you might buy.

    larger tyres +ratios?

my 90 is on gas shocks and i drive around on the roads with it dropped, much better handling, soon as i get to work/field/lane i raise it up, i reckon it looks quite smart when its low, obviously not much use off road though

help with getting my defender on the road

hmm, saving a few hundred quid seems sensible, so, along with the hire of a crane and a few tools, a clutch change should be possible with a haynes manual and a bit of common sense, might have to borrow a mate for that bit then :D
