    1993 3.5 V8 discovery running problems

Have we decided if the engine has cats/lambdas yet? I can't seem to see any answers in this thread yet. I would suggest checking the lambdas and the connectors, because my '93 3.5 had pretty similar symptoms to this, and I had done similar things as have been suggested before finding out that it...

Worn Axle Splines? Clunk on braking

Hmm might consider getting new calipers, I quite like shiny parts even if they aren't necessary :p But I was wondering if maybe the pads the garage put on last time might have been the wrong ones? It seems like they are too short for the caliper so just slip forward and back by about 50mm...

Worn Axle Splines? Clunk on braking

Springs did nothing. Do you think it's worth changing the pads? They're pretty much brand new, and I bought them from my local "Land Rover Specialist" so I assume they're the right type. Though it does appear like they have too much room to move forward and back. So do you think the pads might...

    Australian outback "adventure"

They've been able to get them for ages. When I lived in Alice Springs (and that was only two or three years ago) there were maybe two other Land Rovers in the whole town, barring the tourists who drove through in their discos. Only one garage was willing to service my Defender, because every...

    Australian outback "adventure"

If they weren't using G-wagons they would just be using Landcruisers... Australians don't like Defenders

    Td5 or V8

I've driven both TD5 and V8, and for me they seemed much of a muchness, bar the noise factor (for that brief period when a V8 is working right, it's beautiful). In a disco I'd get a V8, in a Defender I'd get a TD5. Best of luck

Worn Axle Splines? Clunk on braking

Okay cool, the springs looked a little worn, I'll see if I can't get some new ones. Cheers

Worn Axle Splines? Clunk on braking

Okay, so I got this completely wrong. The pads are in fact loose... So any recommended fixes? Both the retaining pins are in, and the pads are pretty new. Is it just a case of tightening up the bolts on the callipers?

    weak springs?

    May as well do both.
  16. Tubes63

    weak springs?

yep, it happens. I recently changed mine and couldn't believe the difference. Hadn't realised what I'd been suffering through until I'd changed them out

Worn Axle Splines? Clunk on braking

Just had a look, the a frame balljoint's fine. Definitely a clunking noise when the propshaft catches in the front diff though. I'm pretty sure that's what it is. But will check everything suggested tomorrow :) Cheers for the suggestion

Worn Axle Splines? Clunk on braking

Haven't noticed any clunking in setting off... Will check more carefully tomorrow. I do remember ocassionally noticing a clunking feeling when I put her in gear. Will check the bushes and bolts. Definitely not an apple haha, partly because I'm a fat student who don't eat so good, and secondly...

Worn Axle Splines? Clunk on braking

Yes that's what I mean. She just passed her MOT a couple weeks ago which makes me suspect that whatever it is is either creeping up to bite me hard and fast, or it's something that's always been there which I'm just noticing now, or is just getting steadily worse but not bad enough to be of any...

Worn Axle Splines? Clunk on braking

Nah the clunking's definitely in the diff, the calipers and pads are fine as far as I could see. I'll get underneath and try feeling the driveshaft for play tomorrow
