Well my poorly freelander went in to be fixed last weekend... we got a call to say its just the rear diff, the ird etc is all fine. Yay I thought, we don't have to sell spares or repairs, or break it! So the newly bought but s/h rear diff was delivered to the garage today... call received from...

Other half fancies a toyota hilux, the only other 4x4 I have had is a swb shogun, but I like the freelander. The garage hasn't told us 'why' yet, but he has stripped it all down, so assume we will find out when we collect it. Part being delivered to him tomorrow, so might have it back in a few...

Well she was picked up at the weekend, and the guy has rung to say the rear diff is gone, but the ird is fine!!! Woohooo!! So, I have sourced a second hand rear diff, so... she will be fixed... HOWEVER, other half wants to get rid once fixed!!

Well we need someone to tell us 'exactly' what is wrong with it, and we can then source any parts ourselves, and if 'doable' then we will have a go! :) just want my car back!

Guy Salmon IS a Landrover dealer?? Sorry your having problems, but at least it happened within the time of the warranty expiring.. pray that anything else that goes wrong, will do, and in the next 30 days!

Thanks Northern Irelander! The side bars serve no other purpose than to pull my muddy boots off! So selling the 'chrome' will certainly help towards costs if all under 1k (fingers crossed). If we can fix it under 1k, then we will do, as I haven't had any other major problems with it at all...

Yes and no.... it moves... but its bloody noisy from the rear, with the clunking etc. Then when you are moving, there is a VERY loud whining noise from the front. When it was taken off the loader, I then parked it up, and it seemed a lot tighter..

Thanks.. I know pretty much the rear diff is kaputt sadly, so to confirm it has, I am putting it up on two wheels, and turning front/back, and if the clunking etc is there, then 100% its gone? What about the IRD, how will I know if the IRD is kaputt aswell? or if its just making the noises etc...

That is a very good question...:eek: and am ashamed to say... never.. as I 'thought' the dif oil in there was basically life long.. as in, it only has a certain life, and when it runs out, then thats it...

No, not yet.. haven't had time to take it over there, but he has the prop there ready to be put on. Its been off road already, and has coped fine with it, but want peace of mind, so it will be going on.. prob this weekend

Thanks, I did look at boxes, but couldn't find any big enough for my two. They spend a fair bit of time in the car at competions and training, so needed a bit more room.
