    I see a money pit fast approaching!!

Well my poorly freelander went in to be fixed last weekend... we got a call to say its just the rear diff, the ird etc is all fine. Yay I thought, we don't have to sell spares or repairs, or break it! So the newly bought but s/h rear diff was delivered to the garage today... call received from...

Died a noisy and SMELLY death!

Other half fancies a toyota hilux, the only other 4x4 I have had is a swb shogun, but I like the freelander. The garage hasn't told us 'why' yet, but he has stripped it all down, so assume we will find out when we collect it. Part being delivered to him tomorrow, so might have it back in a few...

Died a noisy and SMELLY death!

Well she was picked up at the weekend, and the guy has rung to say the rear diff is gone, but the ird is fine!!! Woohooo!! So, I have sourced a second hand rear diff, so... she will be fixed... HOWEVER, other half wants to get rid once fixed!!

Died a noisy and SMELLY death!

Well we need someone to tell us 'exactly' what is wrong with it, and we can then source any parts ourselves, and if 'doable' then we will have a go! :) just want my car back!

    not a good start.

Guy Salmon IS a Landrover dealer?? Sorry your having problems, but at least it happened within the time of the warranty expiring.. pray that anything else that goes wrong, will do, and in the next 30 days!

Died a noisy and SMELLY death!

Thanks Northern Irelander! The side bars serve no other purpose than to pull my muddy boots off! So selling the 'chrome' will certainly help towards costs if all under 1k (fingers crossed). If we can fix it under 1k, then we will do, as I haven't had any other major problems with it at all...

Are they worth much? (Were already on it when I bought it)

Died a noisy and SMELLY death!

Thanks all - much appreciated! We have decided to break it if costs to repair are over 1k! Even getting it back to 2wd for the time being isn't really an option now, as need the 4wd NOW. So would just be delaying the spend... which isn't worth doing over over 1k. Hate breaking cars in the...

Died a noisy and SMELLY death!

Yes and no.... it moves... but its bloody noisy from the rear, with the clunking etc. Then when you are moving, there is a VERY loud whining noise from the front. When it was taken off the loader, I then parked it up, and it seemed a lot tighter..

Died a noisy and SMELLY death!

Thanks.. I know pretty much the rear diff is kaputt sadly, so to confirm it has, I am putting it up on two wheels, and turning front/back, and if the clunking etc is there, then 100% its gone? What about the IRD, how will I know if the IRD is kaputt aswell? or if its just making the noises etc...

Died a noisy and SMELLY death!

That is a very good question... and am ashamed to say... never.. as I 'thought' the dif oil in there was basically life long.. as in, it only has a certain life, and when it runs out, then thats it...

Died a noisy and SMELLY death!

Hi All, The rear dif, and the IRD have died... a very noisy and smelly death! We noticed a rather odd smell, whilst driving to collect new puppy, plus the gundog, and the guard dog in the back!! Breaking down with 2 dogs and soon an 8week old puppy is not something I wish to repeat in a...

Prop now fitted, done the tippex test

Just in case anyone was wondering, the prop was fitted, and all is well. I met a lovely guy off here (months back now!) THANK YOU, and mine felt exactly the same as his. I can happily say its been brilliant for me off road, never been in any bother, where other 4x4 have needed towing, we...

Prop now fitted, done the tippex test

Thanks very much... The way it feels is as you have described, like the handbrake is half on, it still moves of course, but as I have nothing to compare it to besides it being on 2wd, I didn't know if this is normal...

Prop now fitted, done the tippex test

Hi, I have now had the prop fitted to my freelander... and I have done the 'tippex test' last night, and niether bits were where they were before.. so, I am guessing its passed that... BUT... It feels completely different, which of course I expected it to, but the other thing I did was put...

    Cheeky? Plea for help..

Thanks, I did look at boxes, but couldn't find any big enough for my two. They spend a fair bit of time in the car at competions and training, so needed a bit more room.
