    Catastrophic failure!

But still not on the Moor........ Still not having to do a 25% hill down and up every morning to go to work.

    Catastrophic failure!

November and I got a mate to do the fuel/air and oil filter in March for me

    Catastrophic failure!

Really? So when I put it in for a service and the mechanic failed to mention any of these problems that my fault yeah? I do a service a year on my truck and I pay about £400 plus for the mechanic to change parts that cost about £60. Now I pay him that because he knows what he is doing, I...

    Catastrophic failure!

I live in Dartmoor, the hills around here kill brakes, destroy wheel bearings and make most turbos die within a year, its not a gentle amble across a flat road here, and the mechanic seemed to think that it was pretty much what he expected......

    Catastrophic failure!

How could I have known for one second all that was wrong with it? Stating that is a bit off, not everyone with a Landrover is grease stained and born with a spanner in their mouth! Thankfully thats what an MOT is for, to identify the problems a car has, and since its a work truck and...

    Catastrophic failure!

Yep, thats what's happened! My lovely Disco has failed its MOT big style! All four shocks, trackrod, bushes all round, read brake discs, 5 advisories, including the headlights, ALL four shocks, one wasn't even bloody attached FFS! Passenger door couldn't be opened, front tyres thread, yet...

    Front brake pads.

Right, just finished the brakes, started them at 2 PM! Not to self, check that the brake pads you get supplied with are the right ones before driving ALL the way back home and stripping the wheel and calipers down, and make sure you have enough brake fluid and meths to actually finish the...

    Front brake pads.

    Front brake pads.

I have done a search and not come up with anything too useful so I am asking you good good people here. Brake pads, mine are on their way out, one has gone I think, and I am going to put new ones on tomorrow, so how easy or hard are they to do? I cant get the car booked in to get them done...

Great for escaping from the police but...............

Right so my next question is where do I get one from then?

Great for escaping from the police but...............

I am inclined to go and buy a new 200 tdi engine just in case!

Great for escaping from the police but...............

I will say, once the truck gets to temp it stops smoking, and I have had absolutely no loss of power, it starts on the turn of the key, glow plugs or not, and has, to date (touch wood) never misfired.

Great for escaping from the police but...............

That sounds about right, that was one of the strange things, it seemed to happen when I took my foot of the pedal

Great for escaping from the police but...............

Not sure it did to be honest, I certainly never noticed it..... I am doing an oil change and filter change on Sunday so I am hoping it will sort it out, if not, I am going to start getting all fretty and worried every time it does it, Dartmoor is not the ort of place you want to break down in!
  16. B

Great for escaping from the police but...............

Not a drop, in fact I have hardly had to put anything in it since buying it 2 years ago and only had to top it up in oil once, this time. (excluding the yearly service obviously) Someone else suggested the glow plugs?

Great for escaping from the police but...............

I have done about 3000 miles in the last 4 weeks, Scotland, Norfolk, Dartmoor and Essex, it got better when I did the Fuel and air filter, but its doing it again.....
  18. B

Great for escaping from the police but...............

........... not much use for anything else! When I start my 200tdi up and until it gets warm I leave a swirling mist of white smoke behind me! It isn't always when I accelerate, or if I rev the engine, and sometimes its only a small amount, but sometimes its a long cone of white smoke...

    Disco starting oddity....

right, not checked the voltage yet but had a good look at the belts and they are all fine, one is a little slack but good all the same. While under the bonnet I have a bit of a squirt of WD-40 and for some reason the problem has not reoccurred, I have a mate coming over next week and he said...

    Disco starting oddity....

definitely, and while I hope I don't have to ask many more questions about it going wrong I do hope to stick around a bit.
