Suggestions for good sites to buy

Hi all, I'm currently looking to buy a defender 110 hard top. Would like it to be a 2007 or after model, the nicest condition and lowest Milage possible (don't we all) for prob top end £11,000. I've had a look on the searches but wandered if there are any gems I'm missing! - I'm trying to...

    hard top and tax, LEZ

Thank you for that. I take it the fact I wouldn't be using the hard top for anything commercial is irrelevant? Do you really think it's quite likely that the rules will change and for 2007 landys not being able to enter the LEZ? Can just about stomach that if the case but not the tax going...

    hard top and tax, LEZ

Thank you. So I think the 2007 models should be fine in the LEZ without fine is that right? As for tax, am I right thinking its much less to tax a hard top rather than a station wagon? Is this to do with the post 2006 puma engine or just general?

Hi people I'm considering getting a newish (2007 hopefully) 110 defender hard top. The aim is to have something that hopefully with being a newer model compared to a 2series will be pretty robust and reliable?! I want hard top so I can put a bed in the back and camp the odd night on surf...

    4wd working?!

I wouldn't be so sure!! Ok thanks for all the info. I'll start by pushing yellow know down on tarmac and seeing if theres a big judder on tight corners. Then go from there to jacking front wheel up. As for the spring, not sure, the spring isn't visable but it doesn't pop back at all, I just...

    4wd working?!

Great thank you. I'll give that a go. I don't have free wheeling hubs. Hang on- just had a thought...does that mean if I engage 4wd and its not working and I'm on the road- would I not be able to steer?! If 4wd is not working is it a big job for a mechanic to sort? Thanks for your reply Jack

    4wd working?!

Hi Guys Is there a way of testing if my 4wd works? As when I push down my yellow knob (to engage 4wd) should I feel anything happen?! Also when I pull the red knob back to neutral to disengage the yellow knob doesn't pop back up as I was told should happen...hence making me wander! I have to...

    Gear nobs and snow!!?

Had to read that a few times, so trying it's gonna be fun;) Can you use all the gears in 4wd? And once in 4wd use the main gear stick as I would do normally? No double clutching etc, that's just for changing to 4wd while on the move (though I'll prob just be stopping:) Thanks

    Gear nobs and snow!!?

Hmmmm don't like the sound of that. Well I have no experience, and will only really want to use is locally when gets iced /snowy and cars struggle on roads and can't get up hills. So would you recommend for me then the following? Sounds like I'll never need low ratio gears, so just to be...

    Gear nobs and snow!!?

Thanks blue beasty. "Low ratio is always 4wd" does this mean I need to select low ratio (pull red nob back) before pushing yellow nob down for 4wd? Or if I just go straight into low ratio does 4wd automatically kick in? Would this be the better option for me driving up and down hills in...

Advice for a new /newish defender

And you think they are prone to go wrong often goonarmy? Same or more so than any normal car? They're not more resilient to problems then due to being made to take a beating on hard terrain? Thanks
