I've been back them this morning and voiced my concerns about what has been done to the F/L and he has admitted they only changed the crownwheel but insists that is what is called the IRD and was what was agreed to change but also insists that it is now 4WD not 2WD and that it was tested jacked...

I was nights last night and took the F/L into the end of my works and jacked up both offside wheels and each one could be turned without the other turning. I lay down and had a look and there is fresh sealer around the crownwheel housing so it looks like all they have changed is the crownwheel...

Thanks for the input Hippo but isn't the way I tested it valid as its the way the VCU is tested in another thread using a socket breaker bar and a weight the wheel should have a resistance but turn slowly where as mine can be turned with one finger.

I got a bit suspicious as the invoice says on it "changed IRD OUTPUT and oil £150" instead of changed IRD and oil. I have jacked up the drivers side rear wheel and it still turns easily no resistance so I think they have just changed the pinion gear on the back of the IRD which is not what I...

I think that if you increase the braking on the back wheels but not the front it would over brake the back end, the brakes are set up to balance out the braking evenly more force at the front where its needed helps keep the car stable.

Got My F/L back from the garage didn't seem to drive any different on the way home and no problem reversing so all seems ok:) While there I spotted a bike rack on the shelf the type that bolts on with the spare wheel in used but good condition they wanted £20 so I snapped it up.

Update, I went to see one of the local Landy specialist's today to ask about the key I ordered and told them about my IRD problem they said they can fit a second hand unit for me for £150 fitted and they will test the VCU to make sure its OK so I've booked it in on friday. I had some more tyres...

Wow that looks great well worth a try, would this be classed as a mod for insurance as I would rather not do anything that would put my premiums up

I had an Octavia 2L TDi 140BHP which really did get up and go when required so its not fair to compare them. I have also replaced the PCV filter and removed the EGR valve, there does seem to be adequate power once 2000 rpm is reached and starts to come in at 1500 rpm but nothing below that...

I have a 2003 5 door TD4 bought about 6 weeks ago I have been fixing various faults but don't seem to be able to get enough power out of it. Before I bought it the turbo hoses had been changed as had the injectors, I have changed the MAF sensor the MAP sensor and the turbo boost solenoid...

Fitted a new turbo boost solenoid but it made no difference to my lack of power problem. Also fitted a second hand towbar bought of ebay for £5.50 came with the plug in wiring loom just need to get hold of the uprated flasher unit now.

I think they would be doing well to sus out that it's only front wheel drive as it still has the prop shaft fitted it has been converted to FWD in the IRD as I found out only the other day.
