Do you regret buying a Freelander?

Mine is currently off the road with a duff engine management unit... however I still don't regret buying it. I paid a little over 7K for it a few years ago and have done over 70000 miles in it... it's probably worth a realistic 3.5K now, and has cost me very little to run, apart from normal...

ECU? Immob? Wiring? What's Gone Wrong?

Right... we decided to go the cheap route and buy an ECU from a breaker (£85)... he's tried it and it won't work as he can't recode the ECU... needs a specialist to do that. Am going to get a recoded ECU from ECU express which will have a 1yr warranty. Question is... what's caused the ECU to...

ECU? Immob? Wiring? What's Gone Wrong?

Seems to not be that simple, Droid. His autologik is telling him that no "ok" signal is reaching the ecu from the immob. I'm on here because he' very busy with pre-booked stuff, so it's taking a while to trace the fault, so he just said all input is helpful. He's a good guy and well respected...

ECU? Immob? Wiring? What's Gone Wrong?

Hi optimus... he's disabled the immobiliser now, but says the engine is not getting a signal that it can start despite this. I don't think camshaft sensor is showing up as a fault... Is it possible a faulty camshaft sensor could be stopping the ignition without showing up as an error?

ECU? Immob? Wiring? What's Gone Wrong?

Hi all, Following on from my previous post regarding my failing 2002 TD4, it died on Saturday... luckily right outside my local LR specialist (I just made it when it conked and wouldn't go again)! The guy plugged it into his AutoLogic thingamagik and it came back with an immobiliser fault...

TD4 Intermittent Problem... dies and sometimes wont start

Took it to a local LR specialist yesterday and he plugged it in... four faults showed up: Camshaft sensor Cylinder balance (wtf is that??) Immobiliser ECU he said they were old faults though, so cleared them to find out what it really is... then nothing showed up! I drove round and...

TD4 Intermittent Problem... dies and sometimes wont start

When you say ignition switch, do you mean where the key goes? (Daft question I know!) If so, wouldn't it just mean it didn't turn over at all?

TD4 Intermittent Problem... dies and sometimes wont start

Cheers spartan... will check it out, but from what I've seen of other's posts, it doesn't seem to tie-in with those symptoms. My mate had a tank pump go and the symptoms were quite different. Something else I noticed is that the engine management light doesn't come on (at key turn) on the...

TD4 Intermittent Problem... dies and sometimes wont start

Right... something else has dawned on me... sometimes it won;t even turn over. Like the immobiliser won't let it start. Getting out and locking it then trying again usually works, but only on the second or third attempt. Any other ideas, it doesn't seem fuel related, as it never judders or...

TD4 Intermittent Problem... dies and sometimes wont start

Got an intermittent problem with my 2002 TD4, 5 door... Sometimes it won't start... it turns over, but won't fire. If I switch it back on, leave it with ignition on a few seconds before turning it over (until lights have gone off dash) it often starts straight away. Other times it just...

    Window mechanism!

Got it sorted earlier... it was just not tight enough. Brought one end stop in 3/4 inch and it's fine. Reckon I did the job for less than £3... cost a few hours labour (of mine) arsing about, but think I could do the job in less than 1 hour start to finish. Well pleased... just hope it lasts!

    Window mechanism!

Right... I've nearly got it sussed. Got the fittings, cable etc sorted. However, when I test it and run it right to one end or the other, the "loose" cable (i.e. the one that pulls the other way) comes off the spool and bollockses up the reel. Can't work it out, unless I've put too...

    Window mechanism!

Trying to be a cheapo and avoid coughing up best part of £20 for £5 worth of parts, but am struggling to get hold to a solderless nipple that will do for the middle "lug" on the rear side window mechanisms. Thought I had it cracked yesterday, but the middle lug kept sliding along and buggered...

    Window mechanism!

I'm just in the process of doing mine right now... problem is that the old cable is really chewed up and I can't measure it. I'm doing one of the rear windows (passenger side) and wonder if anyone has the measurements from the first "nipple" to the middle lug, then from that to the other nipple?
