Hi both. Firstly there is apparently a distinct difference between going flat and disconnecting the battery. Secondly you MUST disconnect the battery overnight before you drive the 20 odd miles, and you can't let it change to gas. Don't forget there will be no alarm!!! If the battery goes flat...

The only solid test is to swap it with a known good one, some land rover specialists do keep them for this purpose so you need to speak to your local fella. Did you try what i suggested or did it not work? Where in the world are you? Cheers, Nick.

When i had probs with my gas i was told to take the battery off my 99 4.0 so's it lost its memory and what i was told to do was start the car after reconnecting the battery and drive it for about 20 miles (no less) on petrol only and then stop, turn off the ignition and the petrol map would...

Was it the air intake temp sensor which is in the air intake pipe attached to the air filter? or the outside air temp sensor? which i think is behind the front bumper. Cheers, Nick.

Land rover removed the the dip stick because of all the dipsticks over filling the g/box. Checking the level involves having it running and to be honest a four post ramp so's you can undo the level plug and fill it or let out oil if required which really annoys me. But the local boy's checked it...

Hi all, Jae. It does seem likely to be heat from under the car, ie the exhaust which could be unburnt fuel and as you have a cylinder that is doing nothing it seems reasonable. Don't use it until you have changed the coil pack, if it burst's into flames you'll be non too chuffed i think...
