    110 Fuel Tanks

So when I fill her up,do I have to flip the lever to fill the side tank up aswell or does the main tank overspill into it?

How do I go about sourcing LR parts?

It was a serious question. I've never been interested in anything remotely mechanical. Sports cars didnt interest me as a kid and I've only got into mechanics becouse I want to learn how to maintain a landy. I'm a bit of a survivalist you see,;) so a Defender seems like the way forward. My dad...

How do I go about sourcing LR parts?

I'm new to all things mechanical so I've never had to find parts as I've always just left it to the dealership to sort out. How do you know what you're getting if you get second hand parts or is it better just to buy new? I'm planning on getting a replacement steering box but 700 quid seems a...

    First time off-roading today

And I'm still grinning. Took the family on to the Thetford forest byway. The kids were in the back getting thrown about and shrieking with excitement and the missus who was fairly neutral about the idea now seems to be hooked on the concept and was looking at byways around Britain on the interwb...

Headlamps For J Reg Dfender 110

I nearly cacked meself when I went out the other night, they were so dim. Not going down any country lanes untill I get new ones. Do I just wire this Halogen kit up to the original wiring;bearing in mind I've never done anything like this before?

Headlamps For J Reg Dfender 110

I thought I'd have a go at taking apart my headlamps so I know what to do when I buy some bulbs. According to the owners manual, the whole thing comes apart and you can take out the bulb. The lamp on mine however is just one completely sealed piece of glass with the bulb inside it and the points...

    Rear work lamp

Me fag lighters acting right queer. I plugged a power adapter into it and then an inspection lamp into that just to see if there was a current. The lamp and the power LED on the adapter began to flash on and off every second. I DW'd all the points and cleaned them but it's still happening. How...

    Rear work lamp

Right, there is a black wire that leads from the dashboard switch which has been spliced into the lamp wire. Another black wire leads from that splice that is attached to another black wire which is part of a bundle of wires that goes down into the dashboard. All three wires were twisted...

    Rear work lamp

OK thanks for the help. Are the O/S light the reverse light? Would I just cut the wiring and splice extra wires on the earth and the live so I have the wires leading to the O/S light and another two branching off to the lamp? I think the lamp has a switch already behind it. It's a LR lamp.

    Rear work lamp

Well,I found what I think is the button for it. It was threat big red knob (ooer) right under my nose. It's like a choke that you pull out. Still doesnt work though. I got into the wiring after I got the radio out and I saw that the cable leading from the light splits into a black and red wire...

    Rear work lamp

Finally took possession of my 110 and have been trying to look around it in the dark cos I cant wit until morning. I was fumbling around with the rear work lamp and found a switch on the back of the lamp which I assume is the on/off switch. I had the electrics on but the lamp didnt work. Is...

    A stupid question

If it's on ramps, should it be in dif lock or anything like that? Its got chunky wheels btw. I just wanted to get underneath to familiarize myself with it as I know nothing of car parts as yet. If I wanted to clean power wash underneath and anti rust it,I assume I'd have to take it to a garage then.

    A stupid question

I've never tried to look at the underneath of a vehicle before so what do I use to look underneath? Do I use wheel ramps? Jacks? Or are jacks only for wheel maintenance? Is there enough clearance under a Defender to be able to go under on a trolley? I assume I need some kind of inspection lamp too.

    Buying first Defender

When you say something like "A frame ball joint",would I be able to look that up in a Haynes manual and actually see what it is? I havnt bought one yet so I'm just wondering.

    what jack?

If you're jacking up one end,do you need to put chocks under the wheels incase it slips?
