It’s Not The Rear Drive Flanges and Half Shafts, Help!

Update - Finally sorted, took Landy onto unmade/mud car park and transfer box/diff lock worked perfectly, no knocking. Must have just been too much grip on tarmac car park when originally tested diff lock, dooh! Took it back onto tarmac car park in normal driving hi range and did full lock left...

Transfer Box Knock When In Diff Lock?

Thanks for quick response, realise hard surface is not place to use diff lock, just rolled Landy forward very slowly with diff on in straight line to test and after disengaging diff, knock happened when slight turn of wheel to left while back in high range. Would expect the mechanic to know how...

What have you done on your 90/110/130 today?

Just bought rear suspension "A Frame Bracket & Ball Joint Kit" to fix that knock from rear when setting off! Hope the weather clears to let me fit on drive and fingers crossed the set off knock disappears!

Transfer Box Knock When In Diff Lock?

Hi All, Had New/Recon Transfer Box fitted and went for a run, all good while driving normal hi range. Wanted to check Diff Lock so took it to a car park, engaged low diff lock seemed ok, hi diff lock ok, both in straight line driving. Attempted to put back into just hi range and struggled...

    Question about glow plug replacement

Did mine last year or year before, before winter set in as the Puma was hard work to start once the cold set in! I too was dreading the take off of the old Glow Plugs and did loads of web searches, one top tip that I did was for 2/3 days before I attempted job, sprayed wd40 around glow plug...

It’s Not The Rear Drive Flanges and Half Shafts, Help!

Update - finally took Landy for run post the saga of new transfer box and garage issues. All seemed well, until I decided to check diff lock hi/low. Went to a quiet car park and engaged low diff lock seemed ok, hi diff lock ok, both in straight line driving. Attempted to put back into just hi...

    Defender 110 Which Shock Absorbers?

Thanks for all your responses, as I do very little off roading and mileage will go with stock shocks and might change springs while I’m sorting, subject to budget! Been on Landy site re-shocks part number and being advised LR044348 110 from 2007, surprise surprise puma shocks most expensive...

    Defender 110 Which Shock Absorbers?

The spring changing was more a “is it best practice to do both shocks and springs” a bit like changing same axle discs and brakes!

    Defender 110 Which Shock Absorbers?

Hi All, Told by garage rear shock absorbers need replacing and am looking for help/advice. Not looking for extra lift, etc. so do I go for standard shocks from britpart or similar or are their better options out there? If I use standard, any one know where I can get the best price for a pair and...

It’s Not The Rear Drive Flanges and Half Shafts, Help!

Also, they hadn't even bothered to throw a bucket of soapy water on it after 5 weeks standing under a tree in their yard! In addition, said on test drive the Landy needs rear shock absorbers replacing, I bid them farewell and made a quick get away!

It’s Not The Rear Drive Flanges and Half Shafts, Help!

Update - £1200 for the new/recon box. Ashcrofts after adding bits and bobs would be around £900(and an extra 4/6weeks wait) already waited 5 weeks. Told that my transfer box gears, etc. were that shot wouldn't have been accepted on exchange. Full days labour +£800 and input/output shaft. Turned...

It’s Not The Rear Drive Flanges and Half Shafts, Help!

You were right on the money, will definitely explore ALL suggestions in future. Heading towards £2k with transfer box input spline...and my STRESS LEVELS. Just want my Landy back, been lost without it, like losing a part of me!

It’s Not The Rear Drive Flanges and Half Shafts, Help!

Biggest issue is I'd normally tackle anything on the Landy, but as it was gearbox/transfer box related thought I'd leave it to specialists. Just annoyed, I get a phone call to tell me I was right, but that if I want the Landy back, to take elsewhere, it's going to cost me £600 for a days labour...

It’s Not The Rear Drive Flanges and Half Shafts, Help!

It's frightening when something like that happens, similar with a power steering arm I fitted, lookily it worked loose and not off, another lucky escape!

It’s Not The Rear Drive Flanges and Half Shafts, Help!

Just a short test drive to see if changing all half shafts and flanges and gearbox/transfer box oils helped resolve, as I would do normally when trying to fix a Landy issue! Hindsight being an amazing thing, I would obviously not have test driven to check!

It’s Not The Rear Drive Flanges and Half Shafts, Help!

Update - Had to be recovered after what sounded like a bag of spanners rattling gearbox/transfer box. I think transfer box gone, but took it to a specialist and they advised probably output shaft. After +4 weeks they've finally got it on ramps and phoned to say pieces of metal coming out of...

It’s Not The Rear Drive Flanges and Half Shafts, Help!

Thanks for responses. Input gear, seemed to ring a bell and had a look back through invoices/work done on Landy and paid the Land Rover Centre to have Shaft & Flange changed at 145k(2017). I’ve driven 158k to date, all on road, should this have gone so soon and after only 13k miles? Not had...
