It has only started since I changed the pads but I took it for a spin around our estate last night and it never did it. I will see on the way to work soon. Also thanks Mr Noisy for your help so far

How high/low should they sit?

Ras? So I should have the pads with a single tong in the middle? Theres far too much side to side play? Would that explain the rattling?

If I can eliminate one problem at a time ill be happy

The pads do seem loose. As you look at them from the wheel there is a fair bit of side to side movement. I may have to buy the springs. Also there is a bit of top to bottom movement with the tyre on which may suggest wheel bearing? Might be worth giving it a bit more grease and a nip up?

The rattling does it over bumps or when the engine is labouring. Ill have a look after my tea.

It isnt on turning though. It only does it as such when either free wheeling or just sticking at speed

Stupid question but do you go by how many splines into diff? And do you thinknit maybe the cv?

Yea I changed the swivel ball last week. Ill investigate later

Also do those anti rattle springs make much difference to the pads? I dont have any fitted and when I go over bumps etc whilst freewheeling I can hear rattling like it may be the pads? Plus with the cv joint I thought that clicked continuously?

I seem to have a clicking noise coming from the drivers front wheel. It makes no noise under acceleration or when I apply the brake. I put new pads on the other day. I dont think I have a stone stuck in the tyre as I checked that yesterday. Also there is a bit of rattling when free wheeling and...

I feel a bit safer now knowing they are correct. Yea im not sure about the springs

All done and hell did I have problems getting the pistons back in. Nick, mines a 94 200tdi and I have no wear indicator
