Starting trouble - Must be starter circuit?

Ok, we decided to warm the glow plugs and then try to bump start it. It bumped really well and it started very easily. I then drove to get some fuel and drove it back, parked up and turned it off. On trying to start it again, the starter cranked very slowly and after about 10 seconds it...

Starting trouble - Must be starter circuit?

I have the newer style glow plugs. I got another military land rover and tried to jump start mine. The battery pretty much did everything it used to, the jumping didn't help and so it's not the battery. Im gonna get it towed to work on camp and my boss is going to bleed the fuel system and...

Starting trouble - Must be starter circuit?

well, i tightened the glow plugs and charged the battery. The starter turned quickly-ish, but still nothing. I opened the fuel lines and bled them from the filter (which was full) and to the carb and the outlets. Couldn't tell if there was air in there or not. I'm gonna see if I can get some...

Starting trouble - Must be starter circuit?

Actually, if the glow plugs are working and the starter is turning, the engine should start, could this be down to a fuel problem? I have to go to work now but i'll check my fuel and lines tomorrow. It worked well (apart from glow plugs) before xmas and I got back from leave on the 6th and...

Starting trouble - Must be starter circuit?

I noticed a earthing point on the starter and one on the engine, neither which had a earth so I could try and earth them together. I'll also put the ceramic ends on my upgraded glow plugs as they dont have them yet. I'll also try to keep the glow plugs going for a longer time and try again...

Starting trouble - Must be starter circuit?

Well, I tried to start the land rover with a knife by crossing the terminals. The starter turned consistently and evenly but the landrover still didn't start, after holding the glow plug button down for a while. The knife is now non existant. Sometimes, when trying to bridge the connections...

Starting trouble - Must be starter circuit?

I currently have the later 90 + 110 heater plugs on this landy. Although I did buy a brand new set of the earlier ones, but couldn't get them to work from the battery? Anyway, I undid all the wiring from the extra solenoid as i was only seeing 3v for some reason. Now theres 12v going to...

Starting trouble - Must be starter circuit?

Well, I checked the Engine number and the Chassis number and it says that the engine is a 2.25 diesel engine and the chassis was a Petrol 24v Lightweight. So im guessing someone converted it to a 12v and also changed the engine and fuel system, which is probably why the wiring is as bad as it...

lol, will do, i'll try that tomorrow. Any idea why the coil glows bright red? or the solenoid smokes when trying to start?

Starting trouble - Must be starter circuit?

Is it the thing the last arrow points to in the last picture? Would you suggest testing by simply hooking it up to battery with thick wire after taking it out? If it has one battery, does this mean it has to be a 12v? or could it be 24v even with 1 battery?

Starting trouble - Must be starter circuit?

Ok, here's some photos: By johnyelland1234 The item on the last photo, which the white arrow points to, is that the starter solenoid for the starter motor? Or the entire starter motor? Also the data plate says the land rover is a 24 volt version. Although there is only 1...

Starting trouble - Must be starter circuit?

on the solenoid there are 2 pins, the front has about 5 thick wires connected to it, which are always live. the rear one just has a red wire that then goes to the coil above it, it then goes through the coil, glows red and to a very thick wire which goes to the glow plugs. If i look down into...

Starting trouble - Must be starter circuit?

Hi everyone, When i bought my diesel 2.25 lightweight (1980) land rover, the coil above the starter solenoid was burnt out and the solenoid had been botched to work on the button inside of the cab, and it did work until the solenoid finally gave up. So, I bought a new coil and a new...
