    Veggie Oil Thread #687585

Hey guys, I know you're probably all sick of answering these questions, but I just want to be totally sure before I pour a liquid intended for frying bacon into my fuel tank! So, can I really just tip, say, twenty litres of veggie oil into the fuel tank of my 300TDi without doing any damage...

    First Day Out

Hey guys, Finally got my Disco back from the garage today - replaced the wheel hub bearing and it's now driving a lot better, and thanks to the mechanic putting some pads on the back (previously had NONE!) it actually stops now too. And it just so happens the local 4x4 club is having an event...

    Grinding noise

Well, for anyone who is interested... Took it to the garage and the diagnosis is that the "hub bearings" need to be replaced. The mechanic jacked it up, grabbed the wheel by the top and bottom and could easily rock it back and forth. He seemed fairly certain that this was the source of the...

    Disco Diff Locks

Well my Dad had a Disco about fifteen years ago and he's had a go. He can't get it into difflock either. That said, the Disco was nearly new at the time and never went off-road so he had very little cause to use it (we had a series III for off-roading).

    Disco Diff Locks

Had a good read of that - but I'm not much of a mechanic and I don't think I'd be able to do all of that without somehow setting the car on fire! I can do the pulling really hard from the passenger door bit though - I'll go give that a try!

    Disco Diff Locks

Oops! I have tried going straight from hi/lo to diff-lock and that didn't work either though... I'm sure it's jammed.

    Disco Diff Locks

Nope, no difference. Biting in 1st in high box, clutch in and into neutral on transfer box - no problem upto here. It simply won't budge along to the left though - tried putting all my weight on it whilst wedging my shoulder against the door - the door card was gonna crack before that thing moved!

    Disco Diff Locks

Right I'll go and give that a shot. I've tried it whilst rolling and stationary with no luck but I'll go and give it another bash... Update in fifteen minutes!

    Disco Diff Locks

I can get it into low range or neutral no problem - it just doesn't seem to want to shift over to the left. Should the light come on for low range too? I've definitely had the car in low range and can feel the difference in the gearing - the light has never came on. The turning circle...

    Disco Diff Locks

Well, no. Certainly the dash light doesn't come on, but that might not be working. I don't hear any clunk as it engages, and when I was stuck in the mud and tried engaging it I still had wheels spinning. Is there a definitive test to know if it is engaged?

Thanks, that sounds within my ability level at least - I know how to point and spray! Can I just remove the rubber plastic thingy and spray from there?

    Grinding noise

Thanks for all of the help and information guys. I've called my local Landy spares shop and they have recommended a good/cheap mechanic to take it to. Having a bit of bother getting him on the phone, but hopefully when I do he knows his stuff... Been out tinkering today - fixed the broken...

Full lock Grinding Noise...Thinking garage is at fault

I've posted a thread with an identical problem. Suggestions so far are that the CV joints are knackered, the wheel bearings are done or a problem with the steering stops.. Alec. http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f8/grinding-noise-107981.html

    Grinding noise

Steering stops... Might as well be in swahili! But the car is running standard size tyres - I believe they are 245/70/R16. Hmm, ok so - if it is the CV joints, and I change them before they finally go... Will a "normal" mechanic know what he is doing, or is this something specific to Land...

I did take a couple of pics when it was sunk but I don't have a cable to connect my phone to the comp :( I'll take the digital camera the next time I feel like embarrassing myself! :)

    Grinding noise

Hey hey, Bit of a problem with my Disco 1 folks - hopefully nothing too major but you guys will know better than me. On full steering lock there is a horrendous grinding noise. The car seems to have a limited turning circle, and sometimes it feels as though both wheels aren't pulling as...

    Mud Tyres

Thanks for all of the info guys. I went into my local tyre shop (who are always the cheapest in the area for road tyres) - they said the only thing they had to fit my current Disco wheels were "General Grabber AT2" tyres - are these any good? I will be driving probably at least 80% on-road -...

    Disco Diff Locks

It's my understanding that there aren't any trespassing laws in Scotland (but I may be wrong) - but obviously yeah, it is good manners to get permission before going onto anyone's land. (Tow rope was from when my Dad used to go off-road - about three inches thick.) Eventually a farmer turned...

    Disco Diff Locks

Hey, thanks for all the info and advice guys. No word from the farmer today so I guess he isn't coming to help! Heading back out with the shovel... I'm a few miles from Moffat if anyone is close by and wants to come tow me out/point and laugh. I already have a heavy tow rope so should be no...
