I see, well i'll definitely give them a clean anyway! Having nice shiny combustion chambers and piston crowns aswell as a fully rebuilt cylinder head sounds good to me.

    Project Freebie...

Definitely, that'd be great. But is there an effective way of cleaning the crowns and bores without having to turn the crank over? I'm a little apprehensive about moving the cylinder liners and breaking the seal...

Day two and the cylinder head's off, ready to be handed over to the chaps that actually know what they're doing...

Ok, update numero uno! She's in the garage (well actually, she's in the barn) which will be her home for the next week or so whilst i remove and refit the cylinder head (inbetween work). As you can see, i've got as far as removing the two manifolds... The plan is to have the head removed by...

    Tyre choices!

That also works. There's nothing better than actually moving in the direction you turn the steering wheel! :D

    Tyre choices!

Sounds good to me, more rubber = more grip i suppose! I'll aim for the Yokohama Geolanders in that size then i think! Thanks again...

    Tyre choices!

I've had a think about this Nodge, and a bit of a skim over some old posts! I'm not sure i'm up for lift kits and wheel spacers just yet but i would like a little extra ground clearance... Could i just use tyres with a slighty larger profile eg. 215/75R16 or would they need to be slightly wider...

    Lamp guards.

    Nice. That's helpful... thanks!

    Lamp guards.

Thanks! I wander if you have the same document for the rear lamp guards?

    Lamp guards.

Once again Nodge, thanks for the help!

    Lamp guards.

Damn, that's a shame. I suppose some long screws will do the trick! I wonder if anybody would be kind enough to post some pics of the screws used on their lamp guards? :D

    Project Freebie...

Thanks for taking an interest guys. And for the inspiring anecdotes! I'm excited to get the cylinder head rebuilt and treating the ol' hippo to some real TLC. As i said, having done barely any vehicle repairs before i bought the Freebie, i am a new hand with the spanner so the posts may be slow...

    Project Freebie...

Definitely, i've found this site very useful since i joined... especially being a novice mechanic. I've noticed that there aren't many Freelander builds on the net. People, understandably, go for Discos and Defenders but this being my first Landy and something of an underdog (the infamous 1.8...

    Lamp guards.

Hi all, just a quick one. I've bought a set of used plastic lamp guards (original). They're in pretty good condition but need a bit of paint. Does anyone know where i can find the fixing kits for installation? I understand the front guards just screw into the body and require some drilling but...

'Ello all! I've been a member of this forum for a fair number of months now and have had no end of questions that have all been answered by the good people inhabiting this portion of the internet. Having had so much to get stuck into on my old X Reg K series Freebie, i've decided to record my...

    Freelander R770 radio.

...right. Well thanks for the help people, i'm going to get onto my local dealership some time this week and see what they can give me. Thanks again!

    Freelander R770 radio.

I see! Any idea what would suffice as proof of ownership? As it was just a cheap buy from eBay!

    Freelander R770 radio.

Update: after a few months (literally) of dealing with onlineradiocodes.co.uk. they've informed me that they cannot decode my radio and have issued a refund... So, does anyone have a reccomendation for a company that may stand a better chance of obtaining a radio code?

    K series coolant disappearing act.

It's actually the black one... I replaced it just before the stat and tank though so it's only been in there a number of weeks. That would explain the missfire, but would a dodgy inlet gasket also contribute to the cream under the filler cap? Thanks for the reply!

    K series coolant disappearing act.

Update: i cleaned the jiggle valve as best as i could and bled the system repeatedly, it seemed to be working BUT... a few days later, the engine overheated! ...gutted. So i then removed the jiggle valve altogether to see if that made any difference. It didn't. It's now overheated a grand total...
