Good Disco mechanic is Surrey?? Please?!

I can recommend Matt's 4x4 at Cane End, near Reading at 30 miles away. He's superb, and his labour rate is less than £50 per hour. Go to www.4x4matt.co.uk and tell him I recommended him to you. He has my Disco in for a head gasket change, dash fix (its peeling), downpipe replacement and a few...

    Rust under alpine window seals

We went to Woburn Abbey, the monkeys there seem to be a little more subdued. Probably something in their feed!

Oh no! It wasn't the turbo, its the head gasket!

Yep, that quote includes the gasket fit. I'm gearing myself up for the worst; I've sourced a replacement engine, guaranteed for 3 months, from CWS 4x4, at £1204. They'll fit it for £350 too if needed, which is a lot better than the original quote I got from Nick Kerner's. I guess...

Oh no! It wasn't the turbo, its the head gasket!

Do you think the turbo is knackered then? I've always let the car idle for a few seconds before shutting the engine down, but this time that didn't happen.............   I'm REALLY hoping that Matt4x4 doesn't find anything else other than a faulty head gasket......

Oh no! It wasn't the turbo, its the head gasket!

How would that allow the engine to run at max revs for the 4 seconds? I don't doubt you, I was just wondering about the mechanics of it all......

Oh no! It wasn't the turbo, its the head gasket!

I'm not skilled enough and don't have the time to do this myself. I'll let Matt over at Cane End near Reading do it, he charges fairly, and seems to know his stuff. I saw a brand new, still boxed TDi 300 head for £349 'buy it now', which to me sounds a good price, so I'll keep that in mind...

Oh no! It wasn't the turbo, its the head gasket!

Well, Nick Kerner 4 Wheel Drive have just reported back to me; it wasn't the turbo as the RAC man said, it is the head gasket! (see the 'oh no!' post for a better description). Now, they told me that it could be one of 3 scenarios; a simple head gasket replacement costing around £500, a...

Harman Kardon Stereo - Adjusting Settings?

Is that an aftermarket stereo? If so, you probably haven't got the subwoofer connected. It's a common mistake made by stereo fitters. You'll need a special lead, I found one on Ebay, just search for 'Discovery sub woofer lead', and you should find what you are looking for. If you already have...

    Oh no!

That's what the RAC man said! I've managed to get the new turbo quote down to £340 + VAT, which is a lot easier on my wallet. I would do the job myself, but as its only an hours labour (£70), and I am currently knackered through a lack of sleep (courtesy of a week old screaming...

    Oh no!

Well, Mr RAC just turned up, turned the engine on and we had a runaway turbo  Scary for 4 seconds, I can tell you! So, its the turbo oil seal, and Nick Kerners 4 x 4 Specialist tell me that the turbo needs replacing. He's quoting me about £600 all in, and thats with a new turbo. It...

    Oh no!

Well, driving to work this morning in my '94 TDi 300 Auto, the fuel light had been on for no more than 15 miles, and stopped at some traffic lights (on an incline) and the car started to judder badly in Drive, so I put it in Park, where the juddering lessened. I pulled away, and the car was a it...

    Weak windscreen washers!

Noooo, I meant at the end of the pipe before the pump or just at the nozzle! :p My worry was that if I put 100psi (I can't regulate the pressure) through the pipe, it might balloon and split!

    Weak windscreen washers!

OK, dunces question, but do I position the airline at the pump-end of the pipe or right at the jet?
  16. tonyw

    Weak windscreen washers!

My windscreen washers are a bit weak, so before I start replacing stuff, is this a Discovery trait? The spray barely reaches above a 3rd up the screen, and it is obviously low pressure. BTW, I have a '94 300 tdi. Tried searching on the forum, but found nothing.

Need help with buying a disco

Good decision. My auto is as smooth as silk through the changes, mind you, I am comparing it to my old Saab 900 auto! :D Check for water ingress at the seal areas (windows, sunroofs, alpine glass). Obvious places are the front windscreen and tracks down the rear pillar post, where the...

    cigarette lighter

Well, the one I bought from Ebay doesn't fit my lighter recess! If you look at item number 120029073837 on Ebay you can see the item I bought! :(

Nope, not that I'm aware of.

    cigarette lighter

Hi all, Anyone know whether the cigarette lighters are the same sizes for the 200 and 300 TDi series? What about the series 2? I bought one of those silver ones from Ebay, but it is too small in diameter by about 3mm. Not happy! The auction said that it would fit any Disco! I'm...
