What did you do with your Range Rover today

It is a bit nippy... My fingers stopped working properly when checking the lifter preload on my V8. Got values close to 0.160" ... Should be between 0.020" and 0.080". Gotta get some shims! Fitting 0.050" and 0.016" together brings the preload down to ~0.054" which I think is an acceptable value...

whats the better engine, 3.9 v belt engine or 4.0 grms??

The notch that bobtailrangie is talking about is on the inlet ports of the cylinder heads. If you look at a set of early cylinder heads from a carburettor engine and then a later EFI engine then you can see the little cut out on the inlet port. This was added to clear a decent path for the...

I thought this was a topic related to cleaning parts in the dishwasher before I opened it. The parts come out great by the way - don't ask me how I know. ;)

whats the better engine, 3.9 v belt engine or 4.0 grms??

I know the v belt 3.9 used hotwire. Never meant to imply that the v belt didn't use hotwire injection. Edited my post to clarify.

whats the better engine, 3.9 v belt engine or 4.0 grms??

Just to throw another one at you. You can also get an intermediate 3.9L It was the gap between the v belt 3.9 and the 4.0. It still uses hotwire injection and a distributor but has a serpentine belt and crank driven oil pump. Has provision for cross bolting but not actually used IIRC. So all...

    Rev Counter & Volt Meter

I'd love to see a standard Rover V8 hit 7k on that rev counter... Not using my engine to find out what the pistons look like!

    Why did I look underneath?

Think of it this way... Once the breather plug is back in its rightful place, the exhaust is replaced, the front dif pinion seal is replaced and the swivel housing seals attended to then you will look under your Land-Rover and come back here and post: ... Who am I kidding? The list of...

Hate it when that happens! I always pay literally 2 seconds after winning an auction before the seller can get their knickers in a knot about how much it went for. You've got my money, now send me the item! Hopefully you can talk some sense into them

While I wait for bits to arrive and the inlet manifold to be machined then there is still plenty to get on with! Got the rear bump stops bolted onto the chassis. (no picsyet) Also attacked the fuel tank guard with the flap disc and a few coats of cold galv spray and then anti stone chip...

    1988 Range Rover Classic 3.5L V8 EFi

Not that difficult at all depending how you do it. Dump the Thor system and you could either find a 3.9 intermediate engine (runs on hotwire injection and still has distributor bit has serpentine belts) and use the bits from that if you wanted to keep it a serp 4.6. Or just bolt on all the...

Nothing wrong with strombergs if you like stupidly old outdated clockwork devices that just throw fuel in willy nilly! Not my cup of tea either... My eventual plan is megasquirt when the RRC passes its MOT and funds allow. But I now have acquired a complete hotwire injection system which...
