Engine is spinning, enpugh to bring it onto the drive using the started motor. Sounds bad what can I do to to work out what's wrong?

Oil cooler pipes are all clean at both ends. There is oil on the dipstick but there is everywhere

you wont believe how many times Ive watched that at least a few before and whilst I did it. It was the lack of pin that through me. The way I see it I lined it all up as best as I could, but this could still be perhaps a degree or two out. without the pin to lock it I don't know I could get it...

So is that picture showing where the line should be when setting the timming. I had the key at 12 o'clock when I set it

There was one on the pulley but it didn't match up with the key in the shaft. I used the key to dontje timming as the pulley was off

Cheers for the advice. It all fired up first time. But there is still a bit of white smoke on starting and seems a little down on power. Needs investigating.
