I follewed your advice that is; half of it. The part were the cut-outs for the hinge and the frontwing are weren't rusted so I left them. The rest I cut out. Much easier to get the remains of the bracket out. Welded the new bracket in first and after that some new iron to reconstruct the pillar...

Well since it's almost always free advertising and there was indeed nothing else to see I assumed it was at the BritParts plant. Is the quality of their products really that bad? The difference in price between them and oem is very big..

Yesterday I put everything back in. Especially the hose between the cilinderhead and block is a crime. vaselin, dishwasherstuff, hot water; nothing really helped. so I fitted the thermostathousing on and by turning the bolts the hose eventually got in place.

That's right. I also ordered new radiator hoses. But taking it all apart was easier than fitting it back together ;-)
