    Freelander 1 Temp. Gauge

Thanks Nodge, sounds suspiciously similar to the Jags.

    Freelander 1 Temp. Gauge

Hi All, Having done all the service items recently, I’m moving on to irritating things: 1. Is the temperature gauge a ‘proper’ one or is it one of those ‘Cold, OK, Ha too late sucker’ as in my XK8? If the latter is there a LR equivalent of the Real Gauge kit? 2. Door mirrors. Every so often they...

    Thanks Stance. How’s the snow?

What have you done to your Freelander today

Changed the oils in the IRD and gearbox today. What a horrible job. Definitely not my idea of a good time. I was under the impression that the drain/fill plugs were to be torqued to 35Nm. Well I had to get impact machine out for one! Glad I don’t have to do that as often as the engine. Diff left...

    Freelander 1 Fluid leak

Thanks GG, I’ll give the link a go.

    Freelander 1 Fluid leak

Thanks Nodge, GrumpyGel, got access to Win10 lapdog and a 2015 MacBookPro running MACOS 10.10.5 From what you’ve said I assume it’s just a Windows thing. So no good for my iPhone 11 either…? For now though I’m going to check what the leaks like in a couple of days to see how bad it is. Then make...

    Freelander 1 Fluid leak

I’ve seen references to this RAVE manual but have yet to find one that I can open. Do you know where there’s a reliable source? Cheers, Michael.

    Freelander 1 Fluid leak

Hi AndyF, Do you have to disconnect the ends of the drive shafts? At the IRD CV joint and the final drive? Or can it be just the IRD end? Haynes also mentions “pinion bearing preload” when replacing the oil seal and “best left to LR Dealer/ Specialist “. Bearing in mind the last time I did any...

    Freelander 1 Fluid leak

Cheers AndyF, I’ll have a read of my newly acquired Haynes see what it says. :)

:D Just enough to make it look like we still have distinct seasons! Instead of just variations in temperature hinting at them.

    Freelander 1 Fluid leak

Hi, Doing the oil and filter change I had the FL up on ramps and the tray off so thought I’d have a good look round. Found this leak from the prop shaft out of the IRD to the VCU. Obviously any leak is less than ideal but should I be getting mentally ready to spend cash? I was intending to...

I used Autoglyms restoration kit. I’ve got some Maguires polish that claims UV protection I’ll give that a try.

What have you done to your Freelander today

Well all week in between rain showers/storms I’ve been replacing various filters and cleaning the EGR valve. Did the fuel filter yesterday (interesting), and now I’ve got a noise from that area when moving. So that’s me sorted tomorrow. Today I buffed my headlights: OS Before NS after My...

    Pollen filter from hell

Thanks Stance, hoping to do the oil when the 36mm socket arrives, hopefully later this week/weekend. Roughly where about is the hole or slot in the undertray? Cleaned the EGR today:

That cut out sounds like a great idea. Is it more of a slot oriented front to back to accommodate the oil pressure going down as it drains?

    Pollen filter from hell

Managed to get it out, but not before some mini hacksaw blade action on the plastic moulding surrounding the hex bolts. Upside down with a mirror. It was pretty black. PCV also replaced but that required three and a half quid at Screwfix for some bolt extractors. Someone had rounded off the top...

    Pollen filter from hell

Cheers Stance, I think that’s the only option. Or sand the cup away maybe. Very tedious. Its replacement is similar but I can just get the socket in. It’s so tight I can turn the filter upside down and the socket stays put. A ridiculous design.
