96 2.5DT Manual Rangie, 135k miles. recently some mornings i have no life in my clutch pedal. i turn the engine over, leave it a few mins then feather the clutch for a minute or so, and low and behold i can select a gear. it is fine when im driving, and only when the engine has cooled down...

is there any foamy white stuff when you take the oil cap off? or have u got plooms of grey/white smoke out the exhaust? if you have checked all ur pipes, connectors and expansion tank cap. then it sounds like head gasket.

hi shrek. what can i say. LR have been the benchmark since the start of 4x4's. ppl are using 40 year old lr's on a daily basis or as you will be using to cross countries/continents, so i dont think that will be a problem. like all cars, if its maintained and serviced, it will see you in good...

That is the 4 digit code that LR give you that is specific to your vehicle.

are you sure the expansion tank cap is working? if its a pressurised system like on the range rover, it could be the source of your problems. if one of the rubber seals has split, when the coolant is under pressure, it could be leaking through it. its about £5 from LR for a new one.

the intermittent alternator fault could be worn bushes, fairly easy to replace.

i had similar prob, i replaced my glow plugs, now start instantly first time. it still has the hotstart prob that all p38's have, but there is a post on these forums how to fix that too, just not got round to that yet. the bmw 2.5 diesel is a 6 cyl engine, so you need 6 glowplugs. im telling...

p38 is a series 2 range rover, yes. classic 197?-1995 P38 (series 2) 1995-2002 L322 (series 3) 2002- me 2 i was gunna get a disco until i actually sat in one and was amazed how cramped the driver was. mind u im 6'4" :)

you can buy the 'RAVE' landrover workshop manuals on ebay. It comes on a CD. It covers Classic RR, P38 RR, L322 RR, Freelander, Disco 1 & 2. I bought mine for about £4. I have the 2.5DT P38, and the BMW 2.5 engine is deff covered in the RAVE cd.

water out of the exhaust points to head gasket, but u said u have just had this done?

what ride position was it in? there are 4 to choose. Off-Road, Normal, Motorway & Load. If it was locked in off-road, im sure it would have a bit of a roll. if you avg under 50mph it should auto select normal. once you get on the motorway, or avg over 50mph it will auto choose motorway mode...

not sure where you are in the world, but have you looked at the obvious one? www.autotrader.co.uk the 'road tests' part of the site is quite useful giving their opinion on pros/cons of each. hope this helps.

yeah, all cars cost cash to run. 4.6 might cost a bit more in fuel to run than most, but my next door neighbour has a run of the mill golf, and thats just cost him £2k to fix. VW labour is £76 per hour, and i thought LR had cornered the market!!. I have a 2.5DT and wouldnt swap it for anything...
