I'd need better photos, or preferably the failure point under a microscope to be positive, but it looks to me like there is no penetration on the weld in places, or just no weld there. Fatigue has very specific markings, even more so when there is rust present in the failure area.

I haven't done any welding in about 20 years, was rather good at it once, but laying my hands on the kit now would cost me the same as I'd pay for a second hand simbar off eBay, and as the FL tends not to rust I'd not be using the welding kit much down the line :)
