there are engineering places that will recondition your turbo. i had mine done on my rangie recently and it was 1/3 the LR quoted price. just do a google search for something like "diesel turbo repair"

my money is on head gasket. its sounds worse than it is, as you have caught it early so shouldnt be any other damage. i got my head gasket kit with the heads reskimmed for £150 all in. also, check the expansion tank cap, as its a pressurised system, if any of those rubber seals crack...
