You will need engine and gearbox cos the MPi LT77 is very different to the TDi one. Just transferring a tdi to a MPi Disco and it's turned into a pig of a job !!!!

Agreed but I would favour the 200tdi as it's even less complicated, personally I will stay with my Jappo engine cos it was vitually a freebie, they are always the best !

I think LandRover are telling you a few porkies, Ross Floyd who writes in one of the mags (LRM) had his engine fail with the bolt falling off the oil pump on his 110 TD5 he wrote about this in the mag sometime in the middle of last year. No doubt you can find it by asking him ross@lrm.co.uk...

That money won't even look at a busted gearbox on a Toysplatta, local farmer just had a quote of £5k for a replacement for his unbustable (ha ha) Landbruiser. It didn't cope with hauling astock trailer up and down the hills for much over 100k miles.

I have one in a Series one and had to change the bellhousing to fit to the adaptor plate, otherwise it went straight in. You may have to move the engine mounts as I believe the 6 cylinder ones are in a different position. Great conversion mine goes like stink but doesn't have the low down...

Not an easy answer but : 300 tdi not so complex, a lot of issues can be dealt with by self or a reasonably competent garage. MPG better than TD5 in my experience, 30 + can be achieved whereas TD5 struggles to better 25. Problems : All the tdi cambelt issues should be fixed by now, gearboxes...
