VCU or not VCU that is the question.

Im no mechanic but I would guess that 2wd mode puts less strain on the IRD then in full 4wd mode. You said you have no symptons but waht this guy has found in your IRD oil. From what I read on here they whine and kick and **** alot before they go so apart from the metal in the IRD you have none...

VCU or not VCU that is the question.

F1 how are you at mechanics? ig you are thinking of removing the propshaft and blanking the IRD, you must be fairly confident. Why dont you do the bar test yourself? are you sure you friend didnt have the handbrake on, it has been known. People worry to much about their VCU's (me included!)...

VCU or not VCU that is the question.

as I said in my post I want to return mine to 4wd but as Mat Hat Man says its as simple as removing the propshaft. blanking plates for the IRD are about £20 but if you are leaving it like that then maybe its worth it. I personnally think the ride quality when in 4wd is far better, but i want to...

    gearbox xdi model

yet more info, just found out that the fittings are different for the landy but you could put a petrol 1.8 box on a diesel 2.0L as they are exactly the same just different gearing. this would make perfect sense as the pertol would have a far higher rev range and therefore gearing would be...

    gearbox xdi model

cant see a stamp anywhere from underneath or with air box removed. Its seems there are at least 3 variants 200/400/75 and 600 and assume something different again for the freelander. Bit of a gamble though to get one fitted assuming it is this. but I cant see what else it could possible be but...

    gearbox xdi model

Same with and without the propshaft. Went out today to do some more quick tests (mondo mode) 1st gear 3000 revs 10mph, 2nd gear 3000 revs 20mph 3rd gear 3000revs 30mph. then there is a bit of a jump to 4th gear 3000revs 50mph 5th gear 3000revs 60mph. Basically the rev to speed to me seems off so...

    gearbox xdi model

The freelander I bought last month supposedly had a new gearbox fitted in February. the gearbox works but I am really suprised at the revs to speed ratio. in 5th the revs for 70mph are 3500-3750 this seems really high to me for what is essentially a normal cruising speed. As a consquence I am up...

VCU or not VCU that is the question.

As you will able to tell from my number of posts I have only recently purchased a freelander 1, 2 litre XDI, 2000 with 98000 on the clock. I trauled the forums for common problems and found a culprit to a lot of porblems is the VCU. I did have a knocking to the rear and shuddering on slow turns...

    Speakers

Alternatively you could take this opportunity to fit new ones. I have and 6.5" speakers fit nicely in teh whole and, depending on what you pay, give a far superior sound to the originals. Only thing to say though is, watch the speaker depth!! as both front and back windows come down past the...

    Complete Landy newb says Hi

Been hankering after a landrover for a while and I have taken the plunge and bought a 5 door 2000 xdi. It seems in good condition and has done a little over 90,000. I am sure as with all cars it will have its quirks and stuff but I do have a few questions which will appear stupid I have no...
