    How to find greenlanes

Not expecting anyone to do any leg work for me at all, just share a bit of knowledge they may already have. That said, you've explained why folks are reluctant to share that, and as I explained, its not something I'd considered before.. Anyway, I certainly didn't come on here to argue with...

Laning in the Snow - Llangollen Steps

I could just lurk in the background! lol ;) Plans for getting a Defender took a step back this morning as the Other Half saw a G Wagon "restoration" on "Wheeler Dealers"! Says the interior looked a lot nicer than the "cattle wagon" we took for a test drive yesterday! lol

Laning in the Snow - Llangollen Steps

I'm going down to Somerset at the end of next month and need the Jimny in good order for that, but once that is out of the way, I'd be happy to tag along on any of the easier lanes around north Wales.. Apart from not wrecking my car, my only real concern is holding a group up..Hope to be...

Took a nearly brand new TDc for a Test Drive

To be honest, given a choice, I would prefer a rear locker and less electrical gubbins, but thats me. Rear Lockers were available on certain models of the L200 and Shogun as well as other Jap 4x4's, and I think it should be a factory option on any serious 4x4. Not really looking for luxury...

Took a nearly brand new TDc for a Test Drive

Fair point, and at the end of the day, I think the Defender is probably more rugged than the various crew cab pick-ups..I was just trying to give my objective first impressions of the two vehicles.. To be honest, a Ford Thunder crew cab or similar probably makes more sense for what I need, but...

First trip off road: essential kit?

What type of jack? Regardless, I'd also carry a couple squares of wood, something like 15"x15"X2" to go under the jack to stop it sinking in soft ground.. I would also recommend at least one shovel, and a pick. I use ex army entrenching tools which are about 1/2 size of normal, so are easier to...

Took a nearly brand new TDc for a Test Drive

As I mentioned in another thread, I am contemplating a Defender for my next vehicle. However based on driving Defenders previously, I had reservations about the comfort and space when driving long distances. Based on the suggestions on the other thread, I found a Defender for sale locally with...

    How to find greenlanes

Just taken a nearly new TDc out for a test drive (not that I can afford that sort of money) and I'll post my thoughts over on the General forum..

    How to find greenlanes

Not moaning at all Sue, just never considered that the location of public roads needed to be kept "secret"... As I said, I can understand why given there are idiots about it just makes life a little more difficult for other more responsible people. There are dozens of tracks and lanes around...

    Corwen Car Wash?

Thanks Gents, At least it can be incorporated into a route, rather than just tackled as a blind river crossing so to speak.. Regards, Peter

    How to find greenlanes

Interesting thread. As a new member to the forum, I've already come across the "cult of secrecy" re lane locations, which I find sad but perhaps understandable considering the idiots out there. I was out the other week for a Sunday drive in the hills around Llan, and came across a couple of...

Land Rovers Rock climbing up the Pheasant Steps & Recovery Home

You know, if they can get their vehicles started, I have always found Landy drivers helpful like that! :p

    Corwen Car Wash?

I've been down to the ford from the Corwen side, but never tried crossing..Does the lane lead anywhere on the other side and is it legally drivable? Regards, Peter

Laning in the Snow - Llangollen Steps

I fully appreciate that and no offense taken.. I'm not a serious off-roader at the moment, and mostly use my Jimny for shooting and so get my dose of off-roading that way.. I live in Chirk and several years back (when I had a Trooper) I went out a few times with an informal group/club that was...

Laning in the Snow - Llangollen Steps

Fair enough..not quite the helpful response I expected, but thanks anyway! (PS: currently drive a stock Jimny...hoodies on skateboards have more chance of tearing something up! :))

Laning in the Snow - Llangollen Steps

Anybody care to share some grid references for the start and finish of this lane? I *think* I've driven it in the past, but I'm buggered if I can remember the route..

Land Rovers Rock climbing up the Pheasant Steps & Recovery Home

Don't be too proud of your Land Rovers and Disco's, I took my completely stock Jimny over the steps last summer with no problems.. :) Not sure I'd try after heavy rain,, but in the dry everything went like clockwork.

Is there such a thing as a "comfortable" Defender?

Drove one up to Scotland last year, and it just felt a bit "barge" like..I used to have a LWB Trooper and the Disco even elt a bit more unwieldy than that.. Plus, I actually like the look of the Defender, probably second only to the old Lightweights..To me, the Defender just looks like an...

Is there such a thing as a "comfortable" Defender?

Wasn't there a known gearbox issue with the 200TDi that caused a lot of them to fail at around the 60,000 mile mark? IIRC, it was something to do with the gearboxes being slightly misaligned and thus suffering from early excessive wear?

Is there such a thing as a "comfortable" Defender?

I once drove from Warminster to Dundee in a Series 3, so I do appreciate what you mean! :)
